Car missfired on the way home today for a minute or so and then started driving fine again, plugged it into VAG-COM when i got home and came up with 'cylinder 2 missfire'. Would it be a good idea to change out the coilpack and plugs now before it puts strain on the other coilpacks or should i just wait and see if it happens again? Do missfires just happen from time to time or is it a definite sign that something is on its way out?

If its happend then it maybe on its way out. have you checked that it hassent popped up or anything.?

Id buy a new one and just keep it in the car handy incase it goes while your out and about though saves you the hassle.

Ive had a missfire from mine before but nothing that came up on vag-com or anything so i swapped the coilpacks around and its been fine since.

Mine started doing this about two weeks ago, slight misfire on full throttle.
The ECU didnt flag it up though, so I just replaced all 4 coilpacks and it rectified the problem.

You would get away with replacing just the one, I did mine all at the same time because they were probably due to be changed, upon removal, I noticed I had 4 different coils, only one being genuine

it's on its way, although its strange to have only done it briefly, was it under load when it went?

No not really, dropped down from 50 to about 20 to turn into a junction, dropped it into second and went to pull away and then it happened. After about a minute or so it was fine again, even gave it beans after that the rest of the way home and it was fine, didnt skip a beat

Cheers for the replies guys, i think ill get one and keep it in the car to be safe. :)
