Adding iPod/USB and Bluetooth to Ibiza Headunit

Alex13p,

I've been following all this with interest since I have a 1.2 TSI SE on order and would also like to be able use SD cards or USB sticks. Not wanting Bluetooth or Ipod, paying £340 odd for the factory fit option would be crazy.

Before taking this further I wonder if we can be sure that the head unit in the cars with the factory fit option is actually the same as the ordinary one or is a modified version? If it was the same I'd have thought that USB would be available as a dealer fit option which it isn't. (Presumably the dealer could upgrade any firmware in the head unit is needed).

BTW I notice that Ipod/USB is available without Bluetooth for Fabia and Polo at £145-£155 again as factory fit. These both use Blaupunkt RCD310 or similar and the price makes me suspect that they use a similar system to SEATs.

As an aside can you add files to a multisession CD-RW and have the Ibiza player read them or do you have to start gain with a new or erased CD?

The CD-RW's have to be closed sessions for them to be read in the standard headunits.

Something i just realised today as well is that the headunit can play mp3 cd's - ive only had the car a week :funk:

to find out if your headunit is the same version you need to pull it out and look at the model number. I would have thuoght it would be the same.

Why can't there just be some bloke who is responsible for the design and setup of stereos in SEATS and VAG cars and for him to just come on here and say "Gentlemen and ladies, in order to get what you want you need to get X, Y and Z which can be found by using part numbers 1, 2 and 3 and it will cost £x.xx amount" Job done - pleeaseeeeeee where ever you are - help me

Hard Drive

On a slightly different tack, I took delivery of a 500GB portable hard drive yesterday for my Ibiza. The drive is powered via the USB socket and is about the size of an iTouch, it comes with a USB cable about 20cm long, cost £39.99 from Amazon.

I connected the drive to my PC and copied my entire music collection to it, which didn't even half fill it! This took around an hour but didn't need any interaction from me once started.

Plugged into the car USB socket I now have access to more music than ever and the browse is sooo fast.

Don't need an iPod cable now, and plenty of space left on the drive!

:)

Note: must be a PORTABLE drive, else you'll need a power supply.

Since i'm waiting for delivery of my car, i started looking at the possibilities of adding iPod/USB/Bluetooth also (it's a FR with AUX-IN only).

Quickly dissapointed with my search (the folks in Seat Greece aren't much helpful ), decided to go with a Parrot Mki9200 which offers all of the above and more (SD cards, A2DP Bluetooth etc)

Yer but then you have an extra piece of kit making your dash look untidy and the sound quality will be crapppp.

There is a solution out there, it's just not been discovered yet, everytime i have another crack at it i always find something else

take a closer look at the first paragraph,

"...Listen to your MP3 and WAV files in their car - whether from a USB stick, SD card, iPod or iPhone."

That also why I'm wondering about the iPod, because they don't talk about supporting it in the USB section which probably means it's AUX support?

And yeah that price really is great compared to any other option we've brought up here :)

Just received my car 2day :) finally.
asked for the MDI (6J0 035 342 C) and it will cost 3500 L.E = 350 £
also asked for the paddle shift Bocanegra steering wheel = 3450 L.E= 345 without the AIRBAG :(

well for me the MDI's price is too high, i hope i can find it on ebay cheaper, or may be i will try to buy the ARC's and live with it.

Look at this!

Says at bottom, Not Compatible with vehicles fitted with MMI .... MMI is the whole thing we need isnt it? SOOOoooo is this saying that if this is fitted already it wont work OR if the option for this is on the stereo then it wont work? If is the first bit then surely this is perfect because it can go into the mmi slot and happy dayS?

Alex13p,

MMI is Audi's fancy control system with big display and joystick to control it. It's not the same as MDI which is what we need.

I though you wanted USB and/or SD card, not IPod?

It's possible the gromaudio device mentioned above would do the job but by the time we've added in delivery and probably VAT too it'll be too expensive for me. I've found out you can buy an aftermarket DAB radio with USB/SD and CD for less than £200 and an FM one for around £130. Only doubt is making the steering column remote controls work.

steering colomn remote has been covered a thousand times, that bit is easy.

Yer i got mixed up between mdi and mmi, f000ing accronyms!

I want usb hard drive functionality really. And a £200 headunit would be rubbish. if i wanted to move away from the standard headunit id want something decent

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I believe the part number is ‘6J0-035-342-B’ or ‘6J0-035-342-C’

I thought it came as standard as well but it’s not on my car. I need to get hold of this part and have my radio activated (using a VAG-COM) to allow this box to work.

Cars without this part have functions disabled on the head unit that aren’t there. When this box is added after build, the radio needs to have the functions activated so It can be used.

To fit the kit properly I would need to have new fascia around the cup holders for the media port to come through and allow access. I don’t need this bit as I will fit it myself into my glove box. Although if you can find the part for this too then I’d appreciate a price please.

If it helps at all, I started a thread on www.seatcupra.net which shows that there are other people who need this solution.

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=303785

Many thanks for your help

Alex

Hi there,

Sorry we do not completely understand your question. Does the car not have factory fitted the USB/AUX connector under the radio?

I believe this to be standard build on 2010 Ibiza Cupra's.

Many Thanks

Are u certain that we'd need to activate the parts with vag-com? Maybe it's plug and play just like the dension units?

Just to confuse matters it turns out that some of the head units are not made by Blaupunkt but by the German firm Technisat:-

www-dot-carcommunications-dot-technisat-dot-com

Front panel looks just the same to me.

They seem to have the required adaptor, but for Ipod only not USB:-

from that it looks like these are the systems that come with ipod/usb as they list multimedia box under "interface".

I think that just means that it's possible to connect a multimedia box, just like you can connect an AUX device or an active antenna.

I've sent them a message asking about the "Multimedia Mobile Device Interface" they describe on their site and whether or not it will work with their SEAT head unit.

Mind you I don't yet know if the Ibizia I'll be getting soon will have a Blaupunkt or Technisat head unit.

I also wonder if these people make all the recent head units and they are just rebadged Blaupunkt.

maybe, but if you take a look at the other head units (especially the ones that work with their multimedia thing) you'll see that the multimedia box isn't listed in the radio features
