Can anybody help, vibration at 80mph+

Hi. I wonder if naybody could suggest what my problem might be :help:. I have a 2001 Leon tdi and when going approx 80mph+ there is a stong vibration going through the car and pedals. It is particularly when you are on the throttle and goes away when not accelerating? With no throttle it is almost present but which full throttle the whole car vibrates badly. My initial thought was wheel balancing but surely this would happen at speed regardless of whether you were on the throttle or not??
Any help will be appreciated.

I had this problem with mine after fitting new rear discs and pads, turned out to be some rust on the rear hubs making the discs not flush to them . After a good wire brush up the problem was solved .

Could be something else on yours but its worth a look;)

I had the same issues, turned out to be a buckled wheel, just swaped it round with my spare and all sorted.

Maybe worth a shot.

it could be the front wheels need balencing.things like parking up on kurbs cause your wheels to go out of balence

i had a similar issue with a passat. changed the rear tyres and it went away so it may well be the balancing

Thanks for the replies.
Is it strange though that it gets worse when accelerating? I would have thought any balancing / wheel issues would be there regardless of amount of throttle??

nah mine did that, it was ok (ish) when coasting but as soon as you floored it, if felt like it was bouncing sideways across the motorway... incidentally... 80mph? which track was that on? :D

I've been driving in europe recently. 80 is well within the limit! The trouble I have is replicating it and testing in this country to see if it has gone away. I'd better find a race track!
