Amazing progress man. Looking really tidy in that engine now and that battery looks spot on.

Thanks mate appreciate it.

Just to report on the clutch and diff now it's been over 1k miles since the install and all I can say is wow.

The clutch is lighter than oem and has no aggressive bite. No issues in town or traffic etc.

Slight rattle from the smf on idle when not engaged but nothing I wasn't expecting.

And the diff well, by far the best thing I have done so the car. Totally transforms the drive and the car is a real weapon now. A total animal. Just when you would think under steer will happen mid corner under load and acceleration the diff pulls or sucks the car into the corner. The first few times I have actually had to steer back out of the turn to compensate. Mad! You really have to adjust your driving to it when having it out in twisties etc but absolutely blown away by it.

Has even got my questioning the need for hybrid power now . Never thought I would say that.

Sounds great! LSD is definitely on my list once the engine/turbo is sorted, will run everything in then look to drop in a decent clutch/LSD after that I think. You went with Quaife and a CG clutch IIRC?

Hybrid makes sense though, and you know it ;)

Thanks guys. Yes that's the lsd and clutch. Cg 666 kit and smf. Can't fault any of it at the moment.

Haha it will happen don't worry. Need to sort a couple little things out and then have my wedding next year. Cambelt and water pump due end of next year so when that's due it will most likely go to badger 5 for a bottom end rebuild and forged rods.

Quick question about those red strip lights you put on the door cards.
What length did you need for each side? And where did you wire them? Directly to the puddle light?
I wanna do the same on mine :D

Sorry dude only just seen this post. They were about 2m long and the excess is just inside the door cards wound up. They are wired to the puddle lights yes. Nice and easy.

Awesome, gonna be doing that then. I didn't think about just leaving the excess in there lol. Thanks.

So the build had been continuing slowly getting little nightly things done.

Over the past few months I have been building this up.

I sourced a second beam that was powder coated and already polybushed with powerflex bushes.

I thought it be easier to build one up and swap them straight over.

I got new wheel bearings, axle stubs, wheel speed sensors, disc guards and all new bolts throughout ready to do a straight swap.

And to compliment it all while it was all being changed over I got this lot together as well....

Godspeed oem size rear discs to match the style of the front setup, oem pads, matching hel rear brake lines to match the fronts and vw sharan handbrake release springs to stop the "mooing" in reverse.

Then all the bits and the car went off to Carbon Motive for a Neil to do his thing.

Blimey those pads and rear bushes both look completely shot!
I'm contemplating the build up of another rear beam like yourself as I've already got a set of 256mm rear brakes to go on anyhow and I'm sure the bushes are past their best no doubt.

Much better.

The old top mount bearings fell apart when changing them too so that was another thing overdue.

All settled down now and wheel alignment done and she feels spot on.

That's the handling all done now. Very happy!!!

I ordered a sun glasses holder from a mk4 golf and replaced the driver side grab handle. Another small subtle interior mod.

I'm guessing that the equivalent Polo part will fit an Ibiza? Is it deep enough to hold a pair of wraparounds - like some Oakleys?

Thanks for the comments guys. The last week I have been working on a decent heat shield for the larger filter to enclose it and also support the tip and maf housing.

Started with lots of cardboard and making templates and adjusting them until I came up with one I was happy with.

11ca934644b11eb94937bd7fbef2daee.jpg

Then got a sheet of 2mm steel and marked it all out and got to cutting it about. Long hard job with a zigsaw. Next time use thinner material or alloy lol.

Once cut out I fitted the red trim to it and trial fitted to make sure of figment.

It needed a bit of fine tuning to get it just right but not a lot. Happy so far.

Then another template to make a floor to seal it off from below.

Then trial fitted again.

Next I bolted the two together.

I then used a bracket to fix the filter to at the front edge on the grill air feed.

The last thing was to crinkle black paint it and put it all back together.

And the fitted finished product....

It's now completely solid and the tip and maf very secure. Sealed really well against the bonnet and the front and lower half of the filter.

A bit of testing and intake temps are definitely down. Happy days. The bay is now finished.
