After reading an earlier post about where to obtain flexi pipe, someone mentioned drilling the airbox. Does this process involve removing filter from inside box then drilling holes in the bottom before replacing the filter and lid and then running some flexi pipe from bottom of box to hole in the splitter. Is this safe to do and what benefits does it have??? can't afford an induction kit due to impending gearbox change. 1999 2.0 8v cupra sport:help: thanks for any advice

from what ive been told it works just as good an induction kit, gives a few extra bhp and sounds louder.it does involve removing the box, dont know anyone who attached flexi pipe just the holes!

and I would have thought because youve still got the sensors plugged into the box maybe even better!

im gonna see if i can get another box from scrappys and try it myself so i can put my untampered one back in!

thats my 20p worth of advice!

ps: this poster is not a qualified mechanic and holds no responcebility if you **** up your airbox.

This sounds interesting, i put on my first ind kit a few months back, now it's split in all different places, tried repairing with duct tape but the car lags when starting off sometimes!?

Think this could be anything to do with my ind kit?

it really does the job. nice induction noise under hard acceleration, more noticeably louder than faster. but excellent idea, dead easy to do, took me, un untrained diy UN-enthusiast less than 1 hour.

When putting the box back in after drilling etc how are the pipes reattached ? Just wondered if the metal clips that hold them on have to be replaced with jubilees or are they still usable ?

still usable. you only need to mod the bottom part of the box so just unclip everything and pull it out. leave the top part of the box connected!

Drilled airbox and fitted Pipercross filter to my 16v Cupra Sport at the weekend who needs an induction kit when this mod works so well. Shame I can't use the car as it was rear ended on the M4 on friday:censored:, but looking forward to its return from the bodyshop.

I'm going to be doing this in the coming weeks, currently in the process of selling my induction kit. Although it sounds nice, I'm down on power low in the rev range and I've put that down to the filter simply sucking in warm air.

Going to drill my standard air box (if I ever find the bloody thing!), fit a performance panel filter, and mate to a Pipercross cold air feed I have lying around.

Lastly, any recommendations on who makes the best panel filter? They all seem to be around the same price. I've seen DNX, K+N, Green, Pipercross...
