Ibiza 1.4s 1999 loud knocking

Hi all,

I have a very loud and obvious knocking noise on my Ibiza 1.4s (sounds like 2 hammers banging against each other, under the bonnet area i think),
It started happening about a month ago now, as soon as i heard it i took it to a garage, they told me it was the drive shaft, so i had that replaced with a new engine mount too, then about a week and half later the noise came back again, so i took it back to the same garage, they checked it for me, but everything seemed fine, now the noise keeps coming & going constantly, it doesnt make the noise while the car is station, but as soon as i move off the noise gradually picks up, depending on the revs, but the car still feels like it drives fine.

Does anybody here know what the problem could be?

Wheel bearing, loose exhaust/heatshield, is it lowered potentially catching...

Thanks for the reply mate, i know for deffo that either 1 or both rear wheel bearings need greasing, the previous owner said, i had a part of the exhaust done about 2 months ago due to it snapping off in the engine area tut lol, and as soon as i drove off after getting the pipe done about 5 miles or so, the heatshield split or something, made the car sound really loud, but that was a different noise to the one now though mate, & yes it is lowed by 60. just before i got the passenger side drive shaft sorted (when the noise first began) the mechanic told me it was the drive shaft, but it still does it, you think it could be a faulty drive shaft or something ?

if youve been running a bearing unlubricated, i would just replace the component as it will cause you further problems soon enough.

sounds like i has when i had a problem with my exhaust. dont know what was loose but as i speeded up it use to BANG BANG BANG....something was loose somewhere.

I have that problem, Im putting a Powerflex exhaust mount on the centre hanger and hoping that it fixes the problem.

my exhaust is leaking at manifold and downpipe due to the head bolts not sticking out far enough to get a bolt on lol, and exhaust is also nocking in 2 places due to perished exhaust brackets, only does it at idle though

i have this same problem as well. My car is in the garage now having a few things done and they are sorting that out also.

yeah my noise is like bang bang bang lol, it also sounds like a horse hoof stepping when i listened closeley to it.

might be a different nocking noise, i just no mines the exhaust lol, just saying you should check all the mounts though and make sure it isnt your exhaust.

got the car back today. had new exhaust clamps and rubbers fitted and its sorted

mine also needed a wheel bearing replaced.

thanks mate, appriciate for letting me know, how much did that cost you if you dont mind me asking mate, and so do you think the problem i have at the moment sounds like the things you said then, thanks alot
