I've just brought a T reg Seat Ibiza 2.0l GTI Cupra sport and I was wondering if it is worth getting chipped?? Its nice and quick but could be faster

I had a look on the web page and it gives you 10% BHP and 10% torque for £299.99...

chipping alone wont make much of a difference chevis, really you would want to improve the air in/out, ie new free flowing exhaust (cat back), get the cylinder head flowed to allow more air in and out faster, an induction kit or modify your existing airbox and finally a set of more lively cams, this all increases power but also shifts your peak power up the revs a little so low down power will lack a little, ie instead of feeling the power come on around 2500, itll maybe another 500 revs later.

Nice one cordobabrendy!!! I might only have a grand to play with though and I want to get it to about 180bhp...

Think I might need a bit more cash first or sell it and get a 180 turbo

180 is doable, if I was you Id get the hardest parts out of the road first (and the most expensive!!)
Get the head ported and flowed and while its off have new longer duration cams put in, dont go too lairy or else you will not idle proplery until you get chipped/new management.
have a search on here for f2_stu and robt's cars they are similar to yours only quite a way along the power upgrade route.

The exhaust, induction kit and other bits can be done indicidually afterwards in stages.

If all this was carried out on an 8v what sort of power gains are achievable!

8vs are actually easier and cheaper to tune percentage wise, 1 less cam and 8 less valves to worry about should it all go wrong! haha.
the 8v goes from 115 stock, id reckon 130-140 would be achieveable but anything after that would be as lumpy as hell.

Hi - my 8v is chipped, showed 106bhp at the wheels/ 142bhp at the flywheel at the RR day at Storm Developments 10 days ago. All it has is an AmD chip, panel filter with cold air feed, and a supersprint cat back with no centre silencer.

Yes, the gains are relatively low compared to the gains you get from a turbo car, but I still think it is worth it as you get better throttle response.

As per signature, it was done by 'old' AmD - although it was back in 1998 when they were still in the garage on the village green in Islip, and it cost me £199. I think they now charge £399 for them?

Motorsport Developments (Blackpool) charge £275. You'll get 15bhp ish. And they're the best in the business.

Looking at getting mine done, but wanting to do all other planned engine mods before hand. So manifold, cams and then re-map.

TSR are back in business but I still haven't found out who is in charge. They used to be pretty good at n/a engine tuining.

I wouldn't bother m8! You'll pay far too much money and get nothing in terms of BHP for your hard earned cash!

Just get a external induction kit, full exhaust - ok de cat will give you a few more BHP BUT do you really wanna keep changing it everytime you need an MOT!

Keep the car in tip top condition - servicing etc and enjoy the motor for what it is! I dont personally feel that there fast cars - my 16v is just fun to drive, thats why i like it.

Sell it if you want power! Mk3 Ibiza 20V Turbo perhaps.

OR

Lower it and improve the handling - that will allow you to drive it quicker!

Cheers.:D
