Can tell you now that 95% of people will say go for a remap not a chip.

Also, it's your clutch that you need to worry about, more than 300lbs on a remap will cause it to slip more than likely.

The next thing people will say is, have a search, there's plenty of threads on this both here and in the Mk1 section. We won't be able to tell o anything that's not been said before.

Dan - invest some of your own time and have a read back in the TDI and TDI tuning for all the information and views on the best remap for the car. Everyone has their own opinion which has been covered many times before.

With regards to the chocolate cam, yes theres been threads about this also, have a read back through.

A chip & a remap will return the same results at ther end of the day as they are the same thing just with differing methods of getting the new software code on to the ecu.

A remap wont wreck the cam shafts, but if the cams are well worn the remap will show them up as a fault or finish them off, The same with your turbo and clutch. The main worry with the 150PD are the boost pipes and the crap joins.

one thing i might worry about is your clutch and you have to be able to stop the thing with better brakes and then sort the suspension if you want to enjoy it round the bends and corners.
it shouldnt cost the earth to do that.

Did mine with Revo when it was new - well, with 5k on the clock - and the clutch lasted till 25k ish. Uprated clutch is fine but pricey and worth it. No other issues and its now on 80k miles. You don't need to do the brakes for every day use, but its still a worthy mod for all the reasons suggested. I only uprated mine recently and its made a difference without a doubt, but it was still OK before.

Do the brakes anyway, look better and bite better. Not been for a countryside run yet but I imagine fade less too, with grooves.

My clutch started slipping on the way home after the remap lol (was only on about 20k miles). Got it done, then the remap made more aggressive.

Now on 50k miles & still running like a dream :D
