Right i have a really daft question...
Seeing as ive never owned a newish car, i have never owned a car that is covered by a warranty. My 56 plate Ibiza FR 130 has what i think is a squeaking aux belt, ive had a look at the belt and it still looks pretty new, so i want to take it to a dealer to look at. Do i just go to my local seat dealer and say can someone look at this there and then? Do they then book me in a time or do they do it and you wait??

if i was you i would phone them first as they might be busy! they might not cover drive belts under warranty as its a wear and tear item

You'd probably be best off phoning the dealer and explaining the issue first. That way if they can fit you in on that day you can just go down, rather than risking a wasted trip cos they can't fit you in. A phone call is much cheaper than the petrol/diesel to get to the dealer twice lol

My old car had a squeaky aux belt, so I took it in under warrenty. They said it had dirt on it, so i would have to pay.

I refused to pay, saying they should have it in a cover or something. They done it for free in the end. :D

Good Luck

Ringing them tomorrow cos there is a few things that im not happy about and want them to check. The aux belt being one, also there seems to be like a bang/clunk noise when braking or steering with full lock, there is a bit of vibration through the steering wheel when coming to a stop and also car slightly tracks to the left. No idea what if any of that will be under warrenty but dunno what else to do.
if they do repair anything do they give you a car to use?

You would only get a courtesy car if you gave them enough notice, but I'd doubt if it would be free, no garage could fund owning/running enough courtesy cars to cover all eventualities.

Mine was doing something similar last week, handed it in for a known wheel bearing fault and they found a faulty CV joint on the front left, now the symptoms described above have gone.
Only thing is now the steering is miles out of alignment as they didn't do their job properly...AND they aren't going to fix it as the repair/warranty job has been "closed" on the system! So I'll pay for it to get done a local place whom I TRUST and will do the job right!

I wouldnt be happy with that atall. I would kick up hell with the garage and get them to fix it. They caused the problem, they should put it right.

watch out, make sure the service book is up to date, as SEAT will try and get out of paying for any work done.

SEAT phoned my mates garage [VW] to check that it had been serviced and it was logged on their computer.

all they have to do is clock back in on the job card sort your problem out everybodys a winner only way it could be closed is if they have sent the faulty part away already which is highly unlikely. also for them to not recognise the steering wasnt right is there mistake.

Right, car went in today, booked in at 10am for a waiting appointment. was told it wouldnt be seen for at least 45 mins even tho it was booked in - great start. 3hrs 15mins later get the low down. Couldnt do anything with the noise from the Aux belt cos there was no noise (car was warmed up hence this) dunno what to do about that now, the clunk apparently is caused by a gearbox mounting? they are ordering it in and will replace next week HOWEVER since getting in the car and driving it it sounds f*****g awful. there is pretty much a constant creaking noise coming from the front when driving, like an old wooden door being opened and shut. wasnt like that before! what have they done?!? they also said yes there was some vibration through the steering when stopping but offered no explaination. then lastly they said i needed new pads and discs all round at £550. car is 2.5 yrs old and done 25k.... what the f***

Just back form the dealers, they changed the gearbox mounting. Got in the car all hopeful, pulled away and creaaaak. same creak. so it has done nothing, going back in next thursday, this is fun.

you did get straight out the car and make them aware didnt you?
you should ask to take the mechanic on test drive to show him the noise you speak of.
i used to get customers to take me out so they could show me the sound there talking about just so they could put there mind at rest as foreign sounds understandable drive the vehicle owners crazy especially rattling dashboards although i know thats not what the problem your having is.

yeah i did a u-turn straight away then took someone out so they could hear, they said the best thing for them to do was to book the car in again and for them to have it for a day
