What you need to install an aftermarket stereo in Mk2 Leon

I just installed a Sony Mex- BT3800U. Sound quality is definitely much improved, and it does Bluetooth, plus proper iPod/iPhone integration. Combine this with the Connects2 adapter and you can control the iPod from the steering wheel! Pretty useful!

I'd highly recommend replacing the stock unit now. Although I'm not convinced you need to spend more than £130 on a head unit unlike some!

Will post photos of the clips on Monday guys.

I managed to get mine removed with keys out of halfords plus a bit of gentle persuasion. Didnt even have to buy them they guy in store just lent me a set as they were out of stock. Not often you hear it but... Thumbs up for halfords!

I'm having trouble locating the areas where to use the radio removal tools on a fl fr standard mp3 cd player. It differs from the pictures on this guide so far, any chance anyone has a front on picture of the fl stereo highlighting where to use the removal tools?

Thanks for the reply although the video shows a pre fl radio and as I have the fl fr the radio is different and I don't think the removal tool holes are in the same location, unless someone can confirm they are as I can't get it out

that panel looks identical to the altea I've opted to lose the steering wheel controls as the trim and pocket were £28 from seat. I forgot the clips but they are 25p each. I think the golf mark 5 trim is cheaper option. Will upload photos soon doesn't look great. Bought the quad block from ebay for £4 and aerial adapter for £4 too. I'm tempted to order the Sony connect 2 adapter then cutting and chopping the cables that don't go any where. As the 2nd part of the adapter is £35 rip off!

Okay done my wife's car. Would have ordered the connect 2 canbus if it was my car but she didn't want to spend £60 to put a £80 stereo in  I've set the stereo to auto turn off after 30 secs of pressing the off button, though you can hold it down to turn off. A lot easier than running a switched live to the fuse box :)

for both you want
Amplified Fakra Aerial Adaptor £3.77 off ebay
ISO stereo adapter for your car got mine for £3.40 off ebay

Leon MK 2
1P2 858 063 - trim for RHD 2 DIN slot
5P0 857 232 A - black stowage shelf
1J0 858 137 B - clips you'll want 4-6 / 27p each

Altea MK 1
5P2 858 063 A - trim for RHD 2 DIN slot / £7.26
5P0 857 232 A - black stowage shelf / £16.46
1J0 858 137 B - clips, you'll want 4-6 / 27p each

the trim took over a week to come in, I assume it's ordered from Spain. The stowage shelf clips into the back of the unit meaning you don't really need the individual clips unless you want to stop someone making off with your radio so easily.

item number 150356197709 for the aerial adapter, don't think you can get a normal one? you are converting a Fakra amplified aerial into a non amplified one. When I took the blue cable off the aerial adapter it didn't seem to affect the signal strength Though that could be because the antenna base on the roof needs replacing.

sorry yes mine was for a Sony head unit, that should work though it doesn't have the amplified option on it, might be a problem?

found this one on ebay item # 160347836193 hope someone can say whether we need the amplified bit or not. Can't hurt to have it though right?

Quick question about the aerial adapter - Do i connect the blue wire on the aerial adapter to the blue and white wire (remote lead to other equipment) on the stereos wiring loom?

the aerial power booster / adaptor wire (blue) goes to the ant/cont / p.cont or rem. for a switch 12v feed.
