SEAT announces a new Leon will arrive in 2029

And this isn't going to be another facelift.

We are just back from a recent event in Ibiza to get an early look at the new Ibiza and Arona. We’re not allowed to talk about them until October 29th, when we will release our first look video reviews. At the event, however, SEAT’s executive team revealed a roadmap for SEAT’s future. Rumours of SEAT’s death are wildly exaggerated.

We were told that SEAT is positioning itself as the entry point into the Volkswagen Group, and it is aiming for the younger market with its cars. For many, including our members, we know this has already been the case for many years. SEAT recognises this and is looking to build on that further.

In 2029, we will see a new SEAT Leon, and we expect a new CUPRA Leon too. These will be all-new models, not facelifts of existing models. We spoke to the head designer, who told us that it looks fantastic. Whilst we know it’s his job to say that, we believe him.

To me, it always seemed a very silly move to claim that Cupra was going to become the marque's new brand name, where it was placed within SEAT seemed to be exactly right - same for the "R" sub-brand within VW while some SEAT and some VW dealerships do not support their higher powered sub-brands. The RS sub-brand within Audi, and the VRS sub-brand within Skoda tends to be included in all its dealerships so slightly different.

That statement that SEAT made about where they saw their brand fitting in to the VW Group is, in my mind exactly where most people already knew where SEAT aimed their cars.

Talk about stating the obvious, come on SEAT!

Good to see that common sense prevails.
