CUPRA Formentor VZ5 Full Details

It's the return CUPRA's iconic combustion vehicle the CUPRA Formentor VZ5. Limited to just 4,000 units globally.

Introduction

At the heart of the new CUPRA Formentor VZ5 lies the iconic 2.5-litre TSI five-cylinder engine, delivering 390PS (287kW) and 480Nm of torque, and for the first time, limits on its top speed removed. Paired with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and 4Drive all-wheel drive system, the VZ5 offers precision power distribution across all wheels – including lateral torque control for enhanced cornering stability.

The new VZ5’s exterior design is a masterclass in performance aesthetics. Wider wheel arches, a newly sculpted front bumper, and a front splitter engraved with “VZ5” signal its intent from every angle. Black carbon fibre side mirror covers (optional) add stealth and sophistication, while the diagonal copper-accented exhaust tips reinforce its racing-inspired character.

Matrix HD headlights are joined by a new light projection feature: the CUPRA logo is beamed from the front, while the side mirrors cast a “VZ5” signature onto the ground.

Akebono six-piston brakes come as standard in this limited edition, housed in the VZ5’s exclusive 20″ alloy wheels. With 375mm x 36mm discs, they deliver great stopping power and reassurance.

Inside, the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 delivers a heightened sense of sportiness and refinement. CUPBucket seats are mounted low in the cabin to maximise space and deliver an ergonomic, race-inspired seating position. Ambient lighting, brushed dark aluminium accents, and copper detailing create a modern, emotionally resonant environment.

The cabin integrates the premium, high-fidelity Sennheiser sound system, delivering immersive audio clarity that complements the vehicle’s dynamic character. A 12″ infotainment system and a 10.25″ Digital Cockpit provide intuitive access to navigation, media, and performance data, including RPM, torque, turbo pressure, and G-acceleration. The shift light indicator, visible in manual mode, adds a racing touch, flashing red as the engine approaches its 7,000rpm limit.

For the first time, the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 will be available in right-hand drive as well as left-hand drive, opening the door to new markets including the UK, Australia or New Zealand. This expansion reflects CUPRA’s growing global footprint and its commitment to delivering emotionally charged performance to the widest audience possible.

Powertrain and Chassis

The CUPRA Formentor VZ5’s recalibrated five-cylinder heart beats with purpose. The 2.5-litre turbocharged TSI engine delivers 390PS (287kW) and 480Nm of torque, with peak power arriving between 5,700rpm and 7,000rpm. The aluminium block, high-pressure fuel injection, and valve lift system work in unison to produce the SUV’s incredible performance.

Its unique 1-2-4-5-3 firing sequence and exhaust system create a natural, emotionally charged soundscape that helps define the experience.

Paired with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, the VZ5 launches from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. And for the first time, its top speed is no longer limited, unleashing the full potential of its five-cylinder engine and delivering pure exhilaration as the high-performance crossover SUV reaches its maximum velocity of 280km/h.

Inside, a shift light indicator adds motorsport theatre: green LEDs pulse as revs climb, flashing red as the engine nears its 7,000rpm ceiling. It’s a visual crescendo to match the mechanical symphony.

The performance  is anchored by VZ5’s chassis. Sitting 10mm lower than its sibling, the MacPherson struts up front and multilink suspension at the rear, in conjunction with Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) that offers 15 levels of damping adjustment, tailors the vehicle’s response to road conditions, driving mode and driver demands.

Selectable via the CUPRA steering wheel, the VZ5’s driver profiles – Comfort, Sport, CUPRA, Drift, Individual, Offroad—transform the vehicle’s character. From throttle response to ambient lighting, each mode reshapes the experience. Drift Mode, in particular, unleashes the VZ5’s playful side: ESC off, torque splitter engaged, and full power directed to a single rear wheel for controlled pirouettes on closed tracks.

The torque splitter electro-hydraulically controlled with twin clutches, enables independent torque delivery to each rear wheel, shifting power left or right mid-corner for enhanced stability and dexterity.

And when it’s time to rein in the momentum, the VZ5 delivers with confidence. Akebono six-piston callipers come standard in this Limited Edition. Housed in exclusive 20” VZ5 alloy wheels finished in Copper and Black, it delivers stopping power equal to the VZ5’s other performance markers.

Design

The CUPRA Formentor VZ5’s interior and exterior design is a merges performance and character, sculpted to stir emotion. Its dynamic proportions draw the eye rearward, anchored by a Sport Black grille and a newly contoured front bumper. A new front splitter engraved with “VZ5” sets the tone: this is a vehicle that wears its intent on its nose.

Matrix HD headlights return with elevated precision: they sharpen lane definition and deliver glare-free high beams that adjust to oncoming traffic. Dynamic low beam lighting enhances visibility, while welcome and farewell animations projected ahead of the vehicle create a signature CUPRA moment. But now, for the first time, the VZ5 adds theatrical light projection: the CUPRA logo or lettering, chosen by the driver, beams from the front, while the side mirrors cast a “VZ5” signature onto the ground.

Black carbon fibre side mirror covers (optional), wider wheel arches, and front and rear carbon fibre details amplify the VZ5’s subtly aggressive appearance. The vehicle sits on exclusive 20” Copper and Black VZ5 alloy wheels, housing Akebono six-piston brakes as standard. At the rear, a spoiler in carbon fibre as well as a refined rear bumper and diffuser house the diagonal quad exhaust pipes trimmed in copper to reinforce its performance character.

CUPRA lettering and the VZ5 logo appear in Dark Chrome, underscoring the vehicle’s limited-edition status with delicate sophistication. Add a colour palette that includes metallic paint like Midnight Black or Dark Void, and matt finishes such as  Magnetic Tech Matt, Century Bronze Matt and Enceladus Grey Matt, letting the high-performance SUV’s bold character shine through.

Inside, the VZ5’s cabin is a study in tactile precision. Dinamica bucket seats as standard, or CUPBucket as optional, are mounted low for a race-inspired posture. The interior ambient lighting is tuned to the VZ5’s emotional rhythm, while brushed dark aluminium accents and copper detailing elevate the atmosphere. Dark aluminium pedals add a final note of performance.

Technology

The CUPRA Formentor VZ5 doesn’t only connect you to the road, it connects the driver to the digital world.

At the core is the 10.25” Digital Cockpit, offering customisable views that range from classic dials to full-colour navigation. CUPRA View mode displays engine speed, torque, turbo pressure and G-acceleration with complete clarity, while a shift light indicator pulses as revs climb.

The 12” infotainment touchscreen delivers 3D online navigation (optional), natural voice recognition, and gesture control. Wireless Full Link ensures seamless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while capacitive touch sliders make climate and volume adjustments intuitive.

The Sennheiser 12-speaker sound system transforms the cabin into a personalised concert hall. Continuing CUPRA’s collaboration with Sennheiser Mobility, this 390W high-fidelity setup is powered by Sennheiser’s Concerto algorithms and AMBEO technology. The result is pure, signature Sennheiser sound: immersive, precise, and emotionally charged, crafted from decades of experience serving musicians and audio professionals.

Qi-standard inductive charging, four USB-C ports, and Bluetooth connectivity ensure you’re never out of touch. The VZ5 is a driver’s car first—but it’s also a digital sanctuary, tuned for clarity, control, and connection.

Safety and Convenience

The CUPRA Formentor VZ5 remains one of the safest vehicles on the market, pairing high-performance spirit with a suite of intelligent safety systems designed to protect without intruding. Travel Assist keeps the vehicle centred and responsive to traffic flow, while Side and Exit Assist adds blind spot awareness and alerts when exiting the vehicle.

These technologies are seamlessly integrated, enhancing convenience while preserving the driver’s sense of control. In the VZ5, safety isn’t just a feature—it’s a philosophy, built around the driver’s needs and CUPRA’s commitment to confidence at speed.

Designed, developed and produced in Barcelona, the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 begins its limited production run of 4,000 units in the first quarter of 2026, ahead of its market launch in the first quarter of the year.
