not being funny but to me it sounds like it will vent exhaust gases? if so this will lead to an MOT failure

the waste gate opens at full boost to limit it and during the MOT you dont get on full boost,

i think that is what he meant

Of course you will they will class it as a eak in the exhaust and all you need to do before you go in for an mot is to pull off the vacuum pipe going to the actuator on it and block it off. Have the mot, the valve wont leak and all the gasses will flow throught the exhaust as normal then after mot reconnect the vacuum pipe.

I was agreeing with you!And yes there will be excess pressure, but is it really worth fitting an external wastegate?

There were a few questions raised as to whether Tony was going to fit one to his ibiza, hence the KO3, plus is was also mentioned here:
well as i have a poxy K03 turbo im not thinking about any of this.

this was just an info quest.

why would you fit an external wastegate to a K03s , you would need to weld the standard wastegate up and them mod the exhaust mani to bolt the external on , for minimal gains i add- if any ,then do something to the map to control it all . some people seem to mistake the wastegate for the DV , the wastegate doesn't dump boost , it vents exhaust gases away from the turbo impeller to control boost,

i think this is one of "those " posts

I'm pretty sure these screamer pipes are all the rage on the Toyota Starlet GT forum, my mate has a starlet and talks about them alot!

I have heard a starlet with one on and yes it was very loud on boost!;)

that atp vent is a good mod surely? get the exhaust gasses out quicker and what is even more clever it opens when you boot it and is closed for the trip to sainsburys

Where did i once mention a ko3??

Precisely.

I answered the question he asked... and FYI... all turbos will produce excess pressure, hence the need for a wastegate to dump excess pressure hence the need for the wastegate.. be it internal or external

...and this ATP thing, exhaust valve vent is after turbo and after wasteragte.
Its a short cut exhaust thats all.... Consider it a DP exhaust.

search over on vortex as I remember some vids of some guy having fitted it and roaring up the street with its short 3" short exhaust when the valve was open. No backpressure from exhaust when the valve was open, and quiet cruising when off boost.

I can see the appeal, but think the novelty would wear off quickly.
Its is nothing to do with external wastegates.

Screamer Pipes..

Devorce the wastegate outlet from the exhaust... damn loud on boost... Good for power.. and look / sound well ard. In my opinion anyway.

They CAN be fitted to cars with internal wastegates... but only some... this will be determined by the type of wastegate / turbine outlet on the turbo...

Some turbos have seperate outlets (turbine / wastegate) leaving the housing (IHI RHB52 for example), this is then merged in a cast or tubular downpipe when standard.

Some merge before leaving the housing, however you can get around this by having a devider plate that slots between the turbine outlet and wastegate outlet (I have seen a few scooby downpipes like this).

Just my 2 cents... Don't think I would fit one to my cupra.. but then it's a daily driver not a track day nutter (my other toy has one.. on an internal wastegate).

Might however think about that ATP thing... looks like great fun... easily made switchable too... as Badger5 said the ATP thing is just an exhaust bypass, nothing to do with the wastegate.

hi i saw the posts about the screamer pipe. Just wondered i really want one for my mk1 leon can i get it with a ko3 then or do i have to have a bigger turbo? And does any one know where to get this done?

And does any one know where to get this done? BADGER 5 DOES BIG TURBO CONVERSIONS

:headhurt:

You dont need a bigger turbo for it to work you would just need to be creating enough boost pressure to open tne valve on the s/p say 15psi as mentiond above a bigger turbo would just give you more sound for longer i would imagine on a k03 or k03s it would sound pretty week though as it wouldnt be over 15psi for long so would prob sound like you had more of a boost leek than anything and imo although would be fun is not worth it...
