Is it worth fitting one of these to my leon feel lazy when its cold. Just fancy pushing a button and let the car warm it self up. Or is just a waste of cash
 
Personally I wouldn't. Main reason being is that insurance companies are a bit funny about leaving your car running when you're not in it. I know the alarm would still be set but that is what I was told when I phoned for a quote with remote start fitted.
 
its worth while if you would use it, go for a respectable make (clifford) and the insurance companies wont mind. go for a decent model and they'll lower it
 
Waste of money, Id rather drive the car easily for 5 mins than waste the petrol with the car sat in the drive, also unless you actually live on the slip road of a motorway you arnt going to need instant full boost and oil temps.
 
Also bear in mind it's illegal to use on the queens highway. Off road driveway is fine though. I have had them fitted in the past, have it currently on the Cordy, and will be fitting on to the R, but only as a full CLifford alarm, and remote start etc.

waste of money mate. its against the law to leave you car running and leave it with the doors locked. i really liked the idea of this myself. it seams alot of mesing about. getting past the immobiliser is also a problem. if you are going to do it go for a full clifford alarm system. if ya gonna do it on the cheap then it isnt worth the risk of messing about with the immobiliser. also as it has already been said insurance companys dont like them!!
 
i dunno, they are quite cool. my friend has one on his corsa. Only problem is if you leave it in gear it keeps trying to start it ove rand over so you have to be careful or put a failsafe in, as 1. you may break soemthing and 2. you may wake up with your car in the back garden after its worked its way through the house.

I'm sorry but your friend should have that removed then. Quite frankly a remote start without in gear protection on a manual car is dangerous... Sod waking up and finding it's run into the house. How about coming back from shopping to find it's lurched forward into someones legs crushing them against a wall or other car?!?

indeedy, But asuming the handbrakes on it doesnt really lurch forward more than a few cm. we tried it with the handbrake off and it did about 1-2m at a time.

But yeah i apriciate what your saying, i know i wouldn't have one.



Go for something more fun like remote flashing lights/horn etc.
 
As far as i remember if you have intellistart as an option on a clifford alarm it takes it away from being a Thatchman CAT1 alarm due to it running with no one in the car. But i may be mistaken....
 
You could probably get the system the police have fitted where the engine is running but the moment you touch the accelerator with no keys in the car turns off.
 
The Clifford system does all this. In fact any system that doesn't is plain dangerous IMO.

But it still invalidates the Thatcham aproval. Not because it's a risk, but because the system wasn't tested with an intellistart connected.
 
I have the Clifford G5 650 Cat 1 alarm/immobilisor with intellistart and turbo timmer on my LCR and my advice is STAY AWAY!!! Especially from Clifford as their kit conflicts with the OE alarm on the LCR's. On LCR's the alarm runs through the ECU where as on the LC it doenst so you can by-pass it. My OE alarm/immobilisor is effectivly still going off when i get in the car but the horn/indicators have been cut, this was the only way round it. Ive started it in gear before and it just stalled because the handbreak was on! But if you didnt have that on then yes it could drive off!!!

I think you need a better installer mate. You shouldn't be having those problems.
 
The clifford needs to be installed with a canbus wiring kit so it communicates with the ECU and over-rides it but the jolly helpfull t**ts at Tourque Systems in Crawley didnt want to know and done it their way now they wont touch it! So i guess it can be done but there is much better kits with intellistart like the Toad one.
