I seem to have a problem with the Aircon (climate control) on my Leon Stylance,

When set to a cooling setting e.g. 16/17 degrees - there is a faint smell which isnt very pleasant - really difficult to describe it though - slightly musky kind of!

When set to a high temp to warm the car up, 20degrees plus i get a kind of faint burning smell - note this only happens at 20+ and goes after 10-15mins and goes if you turn the climate control off.

Any ideas what the probs are?

Car is only 3 months old, so i would not think the AC need 'recharging'

Cheers!

I had this on my old 1.6 Leon - ducts/system needed cleaning under warranty. Maybe similar thing. Get dealer to check.

Have this on my company Beemer it smells like a damp tent if that makes sense I put it down to lack of use over the winter

i had read about this, but as i say i have had the car for 3 months, thus meaning the weathers been pretty good so AC has been on most of the time!

Could be mould or bacteria in the ducting, this is common with aircon, you can buy aerosol cleaners to kill it, you put the a/c on re-circulate at full power, activate the aerosol, close the door and wait about 10mins for it to circulate.

This should kill off the mould and bacteria and get rid of the smell.

Thanx for info - but i have NO INTENTION of paying for it to be fixed, we are talking about a 3 month old car!!

Seat can fix it on warranty!

Interesting read.... why didn't you take it to the dealer in the first place hence saving cap locks. 21.5 is what you're suppose to have it at by default so 16'c far to cold and conceivable you got mould in storage.

Excellent replies by you guys.... I run mine through the winter since it's not worth the hassle of risking problems so I do the Honest John stuff of some use.

my second-hand leon is exactly the same (not 100% of the time) - Mk2 - be interested to hear what Seat tell you :)

Its not been to SEAT yet because i posted the thread late on Saturday night, and i dont fancy spending my hot sunday afternoon driving/ at SEAT, i would much rather be sat as i am now in the garden enjoying the sun, with wirelss internet and a cold beer!

The whole mould issue sounds weird because as i have said, ive had the car 3 months from new!
