Having had the altea for a couple of years now. I have compiled a list of things that in my opinion would turn the Altea from a good family car to an excellent family car.

General
1) Make the boot hold an umbrella type pushcar/golf clubs etc. The boot is too square so make more use of the space behind the rear wheels.
2) Rear seat releases should be from in the boot not in the car.
3) A-pillar blind spot large. Mainly due to wiper covers. (this gives better pedestrian safety, but I am more likely to not see them now in the first place)
4) Standard fit reversing sensor/ remove standard cruise control
5) Put back the parcel shelf clip and boot shelf that used to be free!
6) Dash and door plastics too cheap.
7) Full beam warning light too bright.
8) Better residuals. Stop making too many and selling them cheap used!
9) If the passenger door is opened, unlock all the doors.
10) Cigarette socket - this should be accessory switched, not live all the time.
11) Make the speedo read the real speed not a safe speed. i.e. The Altea speedo over reads by 10%. The ECU reading is correct. ie 30 on speedo is actual 27
12) Better dealers..Curtesy costs nothing......
13) Squarer/larger wing mirrors. They are curved in the critical part.
14) Shorter aerial so it will fit under a standard UK garage door.

Model Specific
1) DSG - shorter delay when pulling away.
2) DSG - Manual mode should be FULLY manual. ie. If I want 6th at 42 let me.
3) DSG - Paddle option or afterfit.
4) DSG - Launch Control option as per VW/Audi.
5) TDi - more controlled torque delivery. Too much at low revs, not enough at high revs.
6) TDi - oil consumption < 10000 miles.

Aside from these niggles its a good competent car.

Some excellent points there, Point 9 does annoy me when the wife gets out and shes banging on the window for me to unlock the kids door !!

Point 11, are you saying if I'm doing 30 I'm really doing 33 ?? or do you mean over reads whereby my real speed is about 27 mph ?

If it is 33mph then aren't we in danger of getting snapped by a camera, how is that safe ?

Good list number 7 spot on.

Not sure I understand that one, why would you find it too bright ?

Surely the idea is to let you know you've got it on, better too bright than too dim.

I don't mean to sound patronising as most people know when they have FB on but there are some numpties who must drive around with their eyes shut !!

One point I wouldn't mind adding is that it would be good if there was a way to put rear fogs on without necessarily putting the fronts on.

In my old car if I needed to "flash" the car behind, ie they had full beam on then I would use my rear fogs, now to do that I have to flash the car in front too !! Maybe I should just touch the brakes

3) Agreed but then most cars are going this way
4) Disagree on the cruise. Most useful piece of kit ever in minds eye. My next car has to have it. Its extremely useful on mways and in contraflows so your concentrating on whats around you and not making sure you don't get snapped.
12) No brainer but doubt they'll do this one

Mine

13) Xenon as std or at least projector lenses

If the speedo says 30 then your doing 27. thats why theres some tw*t close behind...

Maybe they have fixed it on newer cars, but on mine its so bright its distrating.

I can see why some would find cruise useful. Just think that people would pay more for it, and have some other options as standard.

I agree with the Full beam light! When driving down country lanes at night with FB on I dim the dash lights using the scrolly thing, but the FB warning light is still crazily bright!!!

When i had my Bora it had the blue back light, so the FB just faded into the back ground, does it really have to that bright.

But hay if that is the only thing bugging me it can’t be that bad o the reversing light is rubbish as we all know.

13) Squarer/larger wing mirrors. They are curved in the critical part.
The new Altea XL has larger mirrors ;-)

4) Standard fit reversing sensor/ remove standard cruise control

This is the first car I have ever owned with cruise control & I love it so much I'll never buy another car again without it.

This is the only point i disagree with, every thing else is spot on.

Also

1. why isnt their a dash light for the front fog lights as there is one for the rear fog light.

2. petrol cap should be central locked and not a key.

3. bonnet should have struts like VW and not the old rod to keep in up,

4. why no engine cover any more.

5. the arm rest is useless and should be hight adjustable like VW.

i could go on but this is enough for now.:)

Picking up from newbi
1. Its by the light switch, i am happy with that.
2. Would be nice.
3. Not that fussed.
4. Trying to save a penny or too “rather have the arm rest”
5. See four

O newbi what do think over all about your SE.I have an 07 to.

Certainly agree with all your issues with the DSG. Still can't make my mind up whether i really like it or not.

Can be great when you're on a long haul with the family. But show it a road with bends combined with gradient changes and the the gearbox doesn't know what to do. It's up and down like a *****s drawers.

I like it very much!!

theirs a few bit i want to get sorted though.

the engine seams to misfire now and then when reaplying after lift off.

the car seams to tramline a lot at motorway + speeds? much more than my ref sport, ( must be the 225 size tyres ).

apart from the obvious bits seat left off ( see previous thread ) i am well happy.

i would like to get it chipped but will get the dealer to cheak out the missfire problem first though.

Hi N

I have the misfire too, mines around 2100-2500 rpm.Chipping i am looking at that to once i have clear 10,000 miles i think i will go for it.
RJ

hi,my fr had a slight misfire and they changed the map.much better low down torque rather than nothing and then traction cutting in.still didn't cure the misfire, but it was better,my friend then suggested that it could be the throttle sensor on the pedal as this is common on peugot

Can't believe no one mentioned the DIRE reversing lights, with visibilty out the back not an ALTEA strong point, this is something that really needs improving!!
