Thinking of buying from them..take it the cars are imported hence

Yep, the cars are imports.

I'd much rather go with www.drivethedeal.co.uk as the cars are UK sourced so the warranty won't be questionable and parts will be correct.

thanks but they are abit to expensive...motorpoint 3-4000 pound cheaper will have to look into the waranty issue

Cars made for different countries get different chassis numbers and notes on all the systems, so dealers will be able to spot its an import pretty quickly. Also, things like oils and fluids can be an incorrect grade for our climate, and tyres and suspension can also be different. From personal experience, it can be a complete ballache to locate parts and things for imports, but £3-4000 is a risk that all of us would consider!

I bought a 1.9TDI Stylance from Motorpoint in March. They are imports from Ireland I think, the spec is exactly the same apart you get traction control and not ESP. Service was first rate (better than my local Seat dealer) V5 doc came 2 weeks after collecting the car. Sent a copy to Seat UK and they put it on their system for the two year unlimited warranty. I do 30K miles a year so the extra third year for UK cars is worthless to me. Car been in for servicing and warranty work with no problems, dealer never questioned its an import.

there are some things you can buy direct or on-line like cd's and dvd's and some things you dont.

Personally if im buying a brand new car I would only do it through a local dealer even if it means paying a bit extra.

lets face it, compared to a Golf or an Audi A3 a Leon is competively priced anyway but its personal choice.

Mind you I didnt have a choice as the Special Edition was only available through a UK dealer.

Some Stylance models only had aircon and not climate control ,also when these imports are being sold by motorpoint they are not being registered with Seat uk so the 2 year european warranty is invalid, you will also need to check model year because you could be buying an my06 that has sat around just be very cautious

Some people will not quote you, but most do. I put all my details into confused.com and lots of quotes came out, think I paid about £300 and thats doing 30K miles a year and business use.

sell to many cars..and they are quite a big company. But will look into it before i commit my self!

Still waiting for my house to sell yet anyway to free up some cash!!

The one I bought in March was a 07 model, my dealer confirmed this when I tried to buy an exhaust trim as it does not fit the latest model.

By EU law manufactures must provide a 2 year warranty for all cars supplied to countries throughout the EU. The car will come with a SEAT EU certificate of conformity.

Motorpoint told me the warranty started from the date they ordered the car (which in my case was Jan 07). Actually Seat UK start the warranty from the date its register with the DVLA.

I too was concerned that dealers would not give me the time of day, far from it, they get money for servicing and warranty work so they are quid’s in. I would not hesitation in doing it again.

If buying from Motorpoint I would double check the specs as not everything on U.K Spec cars is necessarily included.

I priced up a Golf GTi with them a few months ago and they couldn't confirm if it had an alarm (which sounded to me as if it wouldn't). The car would have been imported from Holland, but they could have fitted one at extra cost.

A U.K Golf GTi has an alarm as standard so I suspect this could affect the insurance.

Also delivery to my local branch would have been over £100 extra if I didn't collect it from Newport.

I guess you after a new one - but I bought a one year old UK car from Trade Sales at Slough (another supermarket). So I get two years warranty left, 9k on the clock, excellent condition including the extras left on, known and warranted history and an honest service. And £1500 less than a main dealer wanted. They don't want to be your friend - they just want to sell you a car.

I thought the car were new that i wanted from motorpoint and have now just

realised they are nearly new ...some with 9000-13000 miles on and some with delivery miles on. So will have to find out if the used ones are imports?

When the time comes when i finally get my money together i might even buy one private and try get one with some extras on if poss, I dont want to buy one from the dealers because they are way out of my price range,even tho you do get piece of mind.

You have to do do a bit of research when it comes to imports. Motorpoint were selling really cheap Golf GTi's advertised in Autotrader but in reality they were 2 year old cars that had been built for the Middle East market and sat in a compound in the desert for a while. I have an 07 plate Golf GTi imported from a VW dealer in Holland ( yes Dutch cars have the alarm !) bought from Simpledeal.co.uk . My car is full UK spec , the only downside is a Dutch manual but I bought one off ebay for £20 and managed to put the PDI stamps in no problem. My car is a full 3.5K cheaper than a UK car when specced ( 18"s , cruise, 6-cd arm rest, metallic paint ) . Not sure about SEAT's but with VW you get a 2year factory warranty with imports ( 3 year for UK supplied cars ) , from the date of the PDI inspection at the the supplying VW dealer. As long as you keep the car for 3 years ( ie the same time as UK cars come out of warranty ) , you can sell it and noone need know it's an import. Loads of MK IV Golf GTI's and Renaultsport cars are imports in the used car section but are not advertised as such. If you get a car like a MkV VW Golf GTi with strong residuals, it's a win win scenario. You pays your money and takes your choice I suppose.
