I'm hoping for 160mph speedo reading when I travel to Prague in September. :) Trouble with the Fabia is it's aerodynamic as a brick, and it makes an odd whistling sound at 140mph+

I think your fabia is smooth like baby's bottom compared to my van.:D

I'm making 225kmh (140mph) with 5200rpm on 5th gear. It actually is more than you want on an old van as even with 18" tires, -60mm lowering and Koni suspension, tha small curves on the road seems to be very tight indeed...

LOL. 140mph in a van?! I'm hoping my "whistle" is something like a Fabia sound barrier, and once I've pushed through it should be OK. :D I'll be giving it runs down a 3km runway in CZ in September - I will try folding in the wingmirrors to see if that helps. Within 3km I don't expect to reach 140mph though - you never know though. My car "should" reach 100mph in just over 1/4 mile, so it depends what it does with the other 1 & 3/4 mile (plus braking distance LOL)

Use this link http://maps.google.com/ and type in "mimon" - It's a village in Czech Republic. Just check out what's a few kms south of the village. ;)

We have those top speed races here too. We usually have 1700-1800m long runways (plus braking area). I haven't attended yet, but will be doing that after I get my wife's Volvo running again. With my van I'd expect to brake 200kmh barrier, but Volvo will hopefully get over 250kmh, while 4WD and AT will not be helping at all...

One of the biggest events was held two weeks ago and a friend of mine did 274kmh with his Saab 9-3 T (daily driver) and killed a Lamborgini Gallordo by 3kmh. Two Supras and one Porsche did just over 300kmh. Gallardo was also close to total destruction as ABS brakes decided to brake only right hand side tires @ 260kmh on the clock. Quite dangerous plus somewhat embarrasing...

That's cheating by dragging behind another car. :D LOL I think mine "should" get to an indicated 160mph+ in 6th gear.

Drafting is a very much appreciated street-racing technique... :D

Your Fabia should have the same (very long) gearbox ratios of the 02 and 03 Ibizas TDI130...so really big potential there to attain impressive top-speed.

I leave a pic of a mate's prepared beezer TDI130 (with the "longish" gearbox) on it's own. Notice that real speed (GPS) was measured at about 270kmh (168mph):

I don't have the "long" gearbox in mine. Last time I took it up to 140mph indicated in 6th, it was running at about 4100/4200rpm, so only had about 500rpm to play with, which equates to about another 20mph I guess? I would need to push into the redline to get a genuine 160mph+

Does your car not rev to 5.5K Jason? That's what I get with my VT2, so I always assumed with the bigger turbos, the max revs would be the same if not higher. Possibly another thing to try and get our Portuguese friend to sort?

OK, then you don't...it's a bit odd tough since I thought all Skoda Fabias RS TDI130 had the "long" gearboxes fitted...
Personally I think that the loooooooong gearbox I mentioned (37.5mph/1.000RPM @ 6th gear) like the early beezers TDI130's one makes no sense...unless you're running some 300bhp or so you won't make proper use of it most of times. But then again I guess it's perfect for top-speed freaks...

140MPH in mine is just over 4000rpm... Doesn't want to go much further than 145MPH, but it gets there damn quick!

My Golf going out flat on a straight piece of road (had just a Rapid tuning box fitted at the time - 187bhp on the rr) indicated speedo 238kmh/149mph at 4.400RPM in 6th gear...

With the current remap (206bhp) speedo 245kmh/153mph are achievable and 260kmh/163mph going downhill. More than enough for me anyway...

Sounds like I have the same gearbox as Timbo. :) At 70mph it's at around 2100rpm, so 4200 at 140 (all indicated speeds of course, although mine's only 3% over-reading) In theory mine should rev well into the 5000s, but not sure whether I want to too much. :D

My wife's Volvo 2.5T A AWD gasser has also ridiculous gearing. 5th gear is good for about 340kmh @ 6000rpm. What's more confusing is that all the gears are long, not just the 5th. It helps that in stage I tune it did have 300Nm already @ 1800rpm, so cruising 100kmh was easy.
