I'm too old for this!

I'm going to look at a Cupra next week and the guy says he spent a fortune recently having the "door seal modification" done - apparently on the older Cupras (pre '52) the door seals were inherently defective and if you cornered in the rain it got in and ran down the inside of the sill - to rectify it you need to replace/update all of the door seals.

Is this true? Or is he just spinning me a tale to justify his high asking price?

(£6800 for an '02 with average mileage with FSSH)

Also, it must be a high asking price cos he's had it for sale on autotrader for 6 weeks...

He reckons it was a £700 service including the door seals...

Do you reckon the price is high too? (just under 60k miles)

I think your man's having a laugh - he shouldn't be passing the cost of a service on to you. And if it's been on Autotrader for 6 weeks, then it's obviously priced wrong...

In any case the seal issue was (is) a known problem and should have been covered by any warranty

when i bought my leon, I asked the question on the leaking doors for the reply that there was no issue .. Only to find out later that water does collect in the sills of my 2001 TDI SE.

I can live with the problem as it doesnt come into the interior, just open the doors before driving off to drain water. Can put up with it, considering the joy to drive.

check parkers website out, if you feel its worth the money then buy it. I paid high book price for my TDI SE and never regretted it.

Thanks for the advice guys... there are other, newer ones out there for less money with similar mileage but this one's less than a mile away.
I'll have a look (it's the first one I've seen) and see how flexible he is on the price, but I get the impression he's not that bothered about selling...

We'll see...
