I absolutely agree with you, and on top of these arguments have to add that a Golf V-GTI edition 30 (same engine as the Cupra-slightly detuned to 230hp) with DSG gearbox has been tested slower in 1/4 mile and 0-160 km/h than a standard Cupra ...:funk:[B)]
Would like to see that article... As here in the uk, Autocar magazine have tested both 0-100 with the Cupra managing a 15.3 and the Edition 30 dusting it off in 14.8.. So they have it the other way round... I would say they'd be pretty close...

Whats the 0-60 time on a DSG FR?

1st , 2nd , and maybe 3rd are the 0-60 time gears!

FR does 0-60 in 7.5 sec

Cupra does 0-60 in 6.4 sec , so unless the FR DSG 0-60 is over a second faster than the maual it's not as fast as a cupra in 1st , 2nd , and 3rd!

The "factory time" for the Volkswagen DSG is:

6,9sec Golf GTI DSG (7,2sec for the 6MT)
7,0sec A3 2.0T S-tronic (7,1 for the 6MT)
7,2sec FR DSG (7,3 for the 6MT)

7,3sec Skoda RS (only in 6MT)

I´m pretty sure the estimated times has to do with VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda politics and marketing strategies because it cannot be right.

Why would DSG cut 0,3sec only on the GTI but not on the other two? Of course it has to do with marketing. The Seat can´t be as quick as "the big brother", thats for sure
The Seat weighs a couple of pounds more than the GTI though, but so little it could be evened out by the driver and how much gas in the tank.

Where did you get this 7,5seconds? Source?

I got it from the website " lets toruqe bhp " the same place as i got the Cupra's 0-60

Ive just looked futher into it , and it seems the FR is 7.3 sec 0-60 which still not as fast as the Cupra!

What do you mean? Nobody has said that a FR is faster than a Cupra when you put it like that.
The question was about a REMAPPED LEON FR 2.0T AUTOMATIC vs. a stock Cupra, get it?

How do you propose a car with 40bhp (or 20%) less power than another identical car is going to be faster? Yes a DSG will change gears faster to the tune of 2/10ths of a second per gear at the absolute most. There is one gear change required from 0-60mph. The cupra is one full second faster to 60 than an FR. Take the 2/10ths of a second off the second slower time and hey presto, still 8/10ths of a second slower. On the off chance you need two changes, you are still 6/10ths of a second slower.

Now try 0-100mph. This needs 3 changes. Is there 6/10ths of a second difference between a Cupra and FR from 0-100mph? No. You are now even further ahead in the Cupra.

You are right about this not being what the original post was about, but had to say something when I saw someone say that they though a standard FR TFSi DSG would be as fast or faster than standard Cupra. In two words, no chance.

To be honest, even if the DSG box was available in the Cupra I would not have it as it is not my cup of tea. Yes I have driven a DSG, but as much as people want to say they can drive it in manual mode, it still changes up at high rpm for you and it still changes down if you go too slow.

For the amount of money DSG costs on an FR TFSi, you are looking Cupra money pretty much and with it superior brakes, uprated engine, bigger turbo etc etc but more importantly more power and no less mpg. Fair enough if you want or need an automatic, but dont kid yourself that the less powerful car is as fast or faster despite the magic gearbox. The Cupra would still be faster in accelaration and have a higher top speed than an FR DSG. Remap the FR, and that would most likely no longer be the case, but a standard Cupra would not be miles behind it ;)

If you read my posts again I make no mention of 0-60 I talk about lower speeds of the 1st 3 gears where the gear changes make a big difference also the launch control if you were making a standing start will make all the difference as well. Again my posts clearly state that I didn't say it was faster I said there was much in it , or too little to call it on, although I did state that I thought the remapped version might be quicker (which no one is arguing with).

On top of that the only objective figures I have are that when Autocar tested the FR manual it came out at 6.8 from 0-60 and the Cupra only matched its handbook figures of 6.4 0-60 (probably due to the difficulties of traction with the extra power) and the drivers who do those tests are professional drivers who do the test over a number of times and get an average. Therefore subtract a couple of the 0.2 secs gear changes and a perfect start and for the first three gears changes there can't be much difference.

The other points that you mention (better brakes, better value etc) have no bearing on the point we are discussing. BTW I don't drive a DSG its not my cup of tea either (maybe in a few years when I'm in pipe and slippers mode) and I would choose a Cupra over it, but you have to admire it is an amazing piece of engineering.

Meeoow :p

Each to their own, if we all had the same car it would be boring...

I was about to make a funny comment on the Leon but that wouldnt get us anywhere would it

On the original question, I dont think therw would be much in it, a DSG FR being fractionally quicker than the Manual FR to give it more of a change.

Yes I have driven a DSG, but as much as people want to say they can drive it in manual mode, it still changes up at high rpm for you and it still changes down if you go too slow.

And in a MT you would either hit the rev limiter or stall. So what is the point you are trying to make? :headhurt: That because the DSG will change gear to avoid hitting the rev limiter or stalling it is less involving?!

Other than that  statement I broadly agree with you horace... A stock FR no matter what the transmission is never going to be as fast as the Cupra.

Ive got it! my reply was to the statement a STD fr dsg is pretty even in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear than a STD Cupra which it is not!

I also think a stage 1 DSG fr will be slighly faster than a STD Cupra , due to the extra touqre, but not by much and the Cupra will close the gap as the speeds rise!

Got it! ;o)

Glad to see other people have a sense of humour, I would have seriously considered s DSG if I did more town miles but most of my driving is MWay.

That video proves nothing , driver on the day ect, even without the Revo the S3 is at least 5 seconds to 100 faster!

Lets Torque bhp website lits are

A3 2.0T 0-100 20.8 sec
S3 0-100 15.6 sec

Evo tested the S3 0-100 @ 13.6 sec

I didnt post the video to prove anything, just for fun. So what you mean when you say that the video proves nothing is that you think the A3 dsg stg1 should have been smoked even harder by the S3 revo? And we all are drivers of the day except guys like The Stig...

Cut short you said "I have to concede that the Cupra would have an advantage at higher speeds as there is less gear changes needed but 1st, 2nd and 3rd its pretty even".

You were referring to a "a standard DSG vs a standard Cupra"

This is what myself and others on here are disputing.

The DSG is very clever and it would be a good choice if you had to have an automatic. However my point about the superior spec of the Cupra was not irrelevant because the price of an FR TFSi DSG is very close to the price of a Cupra. For that substantial chunk of change you could have a nice car with a marvellous piece of engineering changing gears for you, or a more powerful nice car which is better equipped and can turn and stop better.

To be fair, a 310bhp S3 should probably have been pulling away a little harder after the launch vs a 240/250bhp A3 TFSi.

To compare, look at a standard 257bhp Leon Cupra vs a 309bhp Leon Cupra.

Yeah i do think the S3 should have " smoked " the A3 harder!

A STD S3 will beat a stage 1 A3 2.0lT

leon

Yep. But then S3's are being quoted at over 270bhp in standard form at rolling roads just like the Cupra and Ed30s are quoted at over their respective 240bhp and 230bhp figures. A stock S3 should therefore have 20-30bhp more than a mapped 2.0T A3 :)
