Cars have always looked samey, they all follow one another for design cues. Whether it was a Vauxhall Cavalier or a Ford Sierra to pick 2 out of the air. It's not a modern or age thing, its a design following form and function thing and that will go on forever.

What I like about this concept is its been designed with a purposeful look, not bolted on as an afterthought. There is nothing extremely outrageous about it, yes its got big rims, and a centre exit exhaust. But there are no silly fins sticking out on it, the body panel shapes are very much achievable on a production car. It's not overly fussy in the overall grand scheme of things.

How they tone it down, for the production Ibiza will be key.

The one thing that embellishes a SEAT Ibiza over a Vauxhall Corsa is it's rarity. VX Corsa's will be ten a penny, Ibiza's though a popular model for SEAT will never sell in comparable numbers to the Corsa.

All new small hatchbacks look the same due to safety laws and this can get away with its in your face looks because its a concept and thats what concepts do.

Wow, this is the first 'Ibiza mk5' pic I've seen that I actually like. I hope they dont tone it down much, same as the Leon concept. I will def consider getting one of these now whereas before I thought the designers had got it wrong.

I like the fact that the Ibizas are relatively rare, even the lower spec models. I've never heard people joke about chavs and their Ibizas like you do with Escorts and Corsas. Vauxhall will never get away from that association :p

Interesting to see ETKA pics :)

Wow!

This is an aggressive look, yet very sophisticated, avant garde, which screams technological leap. This is an intelligent robot, a Transformer, a highly evolved being capable of delivering strength, athletic performance and motor intelligence. This is a piece of art. We’re far from Walter Da Silva´s legacy and its Leon “Pokemon” MK2. I’ve had the pleasure to drive a sporty Leon mk1 in the last 5 years but I have to admit that this Ibiza Concept beats it in terms of sporty aesthetics. This is a triumph by the Martorell design team under Luc Donkerwolke. I hope the FR and Cupra versions will be similar to this concept. I haven’t been emotional over a SEAT car for ages.

You never know, the new fiesta and verve are almost identical, this and the ibiza might be... well i can dream can't I?!

I hope the finished car keeps the LED daytime running lights like how the Audi A5 and more expensive A4 models have.

It's very nice, I'll grant you...

A very "balanced" design. Z said something about it not being outrageous and being designed from the ground up, which I agree with - it looks like it's been deisgned by one team witha clear aim in mind and not suffered from afterthought compromise design.

Hopefully the 4dr doesn't get tamed down at the back end - never quite sure how accurate the ekta line drawings are, but it does look quite a bit different, I suppose that's why they're labelling this a Coupster.

Edit: Looking at the Scirroco pictures, I know which I prefer...

I think it was claimed these pics were leaked ahead of the show, but to be honest i think SEAT have been quite savvy in releasing these images early. There are quite a few new launches and unveiling taking place that might otherwise of drawn the attention away from this Ibiza Mk5 preview.

By 'leaking' the pics early, they've scored a nice amount of pre-show hype. :)

Still wearing Pirelli PZero's I notice, I wonder if it will be as thunderingly noisy inside as my MK4 is?

It's all been said already. That is absolutely stunning. Please SEAT, don't **** it up now as it's the first car I've seen for years which I really really want.

moral of story now is probably do not buy a new Mk4 now, as there going to drop like the proverbial.

Great for me though as i'll be snapping up a cheap mk4 end of the year. yee haa

But look at the size of it, mk5 looks size of a mk1 leon
