right trying to sort my central locking as it works on the key but not on the remote.
ive tried resetting the remote using the imfo people have posted on the forum and still no joy.
had a look in the haynes manual and it says the remote receiver for the c/l is inside the rear view mirror.
took the mirror apart and theres no sign of any receiver.
i take it this is why it doesnt work!
can someone confirm there should be a receiver in the mirror.
have fitted a delocked handle on the passanger side but want to fit the drivers side so need to get it sorted
any ideas?

depends on the key type because if it has a lens at the front like a tv remote then its infa red and should have a reciever

if its a smooth front with a small led on the top then its radio type and the reciever box is under the dash just to left of centre under the top hidden away

remotes on mk2's are notorious for needing reprogramming and even faulty

1 - check battery voltages are MORE than 2.95v each even if new

2 - try reprogramming with swapping buttons over a few times can help as they dont always work first time

3 - if you have a spare or access to a different remote the can be programmed from car to car and back again if you have a friendly buddy

4 - buy a new/used remote and start again at #1

never needed to go further than that if the central locking works ok manually if it doesnt then thats a whole new story :)

as for delocking you could always use the boot ?

thanks
mine is the radio type then
i checked the batteries and they are fine
i took the passenger side glovebox out and found what i believe to be the receiver. (black box with a single plug in it) aqlthough there is another smaller socket on it without a plug in it?

what do you mean by changing the buttons over as it doesnt always work first time?

sit in car - doors closed

1 ignition on to red lights on dash
2 turn off immediately and pull key out
3 hold 1 of the buttons down (dont matter which)
4 PRESS the other 3 times ( with a SLIGHT pause) 1 . 2 . 3
5 watch led on key (should flash) and doors usually try lock/unlock
6 turn ignition key back on to red lights and wait 5 sec
7 key out again and test operation

note #3 press AND HOLD 1 button and #4 press the other button 3 times

is your led on the key flashing at this point ?

try again but press and hold the 2nd button whilst pressing the first one 3 times instead - swapping them over effectively

in fact you dont even need to be near the car to test the remote

press button 1 and hold it down
whilst still holding button 1 press button 2 (3 times)
release both

does your remote's led flash about 5 times roughly ????

id suggest trying another key first - even temporarily off another car as they can be coded back after

or next step is another remote

I found a replacement key fob on ebay for a tenner the other week. Just swapped the blades over keeping the one I needed with my immobiliser chip inside. Recoded and works perfectly.
Like Fl@pper said it might not work first time. I had to repeat it about 10 times before I got the doors to cycle through locking and unlocking.
If your key is flashing when you have held the button (and pressed the other 3 times) then you key is trying to code, just isnt managing it.
