I've just fitted a Green panel filter...

..and after a bit of a drive I have to say there is hardly any difference in terms of noise, which is quite disappointing, but there is a slightly noticeable boost in torque (the traction control light seems to be popping on and off more eagerly anyway).

Having owned a 205 1.9 GTI and then a 306 GTI6, both with K+N cone filters, I was really hoping for a bit more induction noise. My 306 sounded awesome with the K+N - a million times more rabid and angry sounding than my LCR - which, I have to say, sounds dull and boring in comparison. In fact, it sounds dull and boring full stop. OK, it's a bit quicker round the bends and a lot quicker in a straight line, but after 9 months of ownership, it's still failed to set my heart racing like my old Pugs did.

Any cost-effective suggestions to put a bit of soul into my LCR??

I have twice the power of my old PUG, but I still miss her...:cry:

This thing I miss is screaming up slip roads in 2nd onto dual carriageways or motorways, hearing the sound bouncing off the walls and slamming it into 3rd and doing it again!

The 2 litre engine in the 306 GTI is fking brilliant.

i moved from a GTi6 to the LCR and I miss it aswell, if money ever allows i'll get another (maybe a rallye?) i had a BMC on my GTi6 for a while with a cat back s/s exhaust but it got too loud or i got too old for all that noise:D

i think I'll go for the green panel filter on the LCR, smooth the airbox and fit a 007 dumper!

If your wanting a good induction noise and want to keep the airbox you will need to smooth it and modify the air feed. I fitted a green panel filter and smoothed mine but it didn't make a huge difference tbh. I then followed J@mes guide and fitted a custom 100mm air feed and now i've got a nice induction sound and a nice whoosh from the forge 007 dv. I've also noticed it pick up a little quicker too (albeit only very slightly)

The standard air feed that runs from behind the headlight is designed to keep things quiet especially the dv. It's also restrictive imo. Do a search for smoothed airbox and i'm sure you'll find J@mes' guide its about 7 pages long ;)

Like Rob said though. If you want a loud induction roar and very noticeable dv whoosh then open cone is the only way. If you want to go even louder then rip your sound proofing off from under your bonnet.

Like sheffboy said mod your air box and then if you still want more noise drill some holes in the bottom half of the box then you will hear and feel the difference

Don't start drilling holes.

On the airbox front there's a "pipe" or "snorkel" that brings air in from the front of the car to the airbox.

First stage is to take this off the car completely.

2nd stage is to worry about hot engine bay air compared to nice cold outside air and fit a larger airfeed in place of the snorkel.

Then start searching on "smoothed airbox" and "final frontier".

you will never match the sound of a turbo car sucking in air like a asperated car!!!
turbos dont need to suck so hard, hence less noise!!

air filters on lcr sound good on low revs but you dont here them high in the rev range!!

and Seats are so well sound insuelated , you will have to open your windows a bit more!!
only other thing you could do is cahange exsuast system!!!
good luck
