So I'm zooming around today and realise I've not tried the "How far will a tank of fuel take me" game. How far have people managed to get on one trip to the pumps and more importantly how far can you go on the red light before it all goes quiet?:D The trip computer is a bit cautious I think and keeps telling me I've no miles left and yet I've easily done 15 with the range at 0.

i havent tried it yet the lowest i dare go is 10 miles as with it been derv if i run out no doubt would need to buy new injectors and stuff

Max mileage that i've covered after the dreaded 'DONG' was about 40 miles. I was on the motorway and thought i'd have enough juice to get home....however about 5 mins after passing a service station the light came on! Next station was about 40 miles away. I was averaging about 55 mpg though :)

 once my warning light came on with 25 miles left in the tank on the way to Santa Pod, then it whent to 0 and we were still a fair few miles away... then we got there and it was below the red mark, and id done around 60 miles at this point...

Anyway I proceded to run down santa pod 1/4 strip 13 times giving it hell, and drove out, past the first crappy garage and stopped at a decent on ;)

Needless to say it was low. Very low. Almost as low as sleeping with your best mate's g.f and sister at the same time ;)

:lol::lol: That was pretty low then :p
On my 1.4 petrol the worst ive done is probably about 50ish miles into the dreaded red light but i could probably get more, its the fact that once the light comes on the petrol just goes..... the last quarter just disappears so much quicker that the first quarter.... or any other quarter:lol:

For obvious reasons I don't recommend this to any derv. drivers. Yet It's usually worth running a brand new car out once or twice so you know the true limit/fuel tank size... Doing such has proved to me that the 45l rated tank can realistically take 60l+ when venting! 61.7l was my best to record!!!

Normally when my light comes on, I have 25 miles left on the trip and when that goes to zero if im driving like a granny im good for another 40odd and then think its best to fill up!

I did 70miles country road and town driving yesterday with the light on! was the other side of Hereford and dropped two friends off and went home to fuel myself up before thinking about fueling up the car :D

i would not run a diesel that low on fuel as you will let air into the fueling system which can throw the timing out and cause major problems!

to a full 440 miles max....but you can vent the tanks to get upto 600mile to a full tank (search venting)

after the annoying light comes on ive prob pushed 40 miles, dont fancy breaking down!

I cant see how running out of fuel would affect the timings at all. Most modern fuel injected cars will shut the whole thing down if the fuel rail can't get to working pressure.

mine comes on at 20-25 in my cupra hits the 0 miles when the needle isnt even rock bottom, sure i cud do say 10 miles when the trip says 0

Think I managed another 30 miles to work and back after mine had said 0 for ages and the needle was still inbetween empty and the first mark.

Just come across venting having read this thread and searched for it. I get hire cars for business trips and sometimes with the Vauxhalls there is a plastic stick on the inside of the fuel cap, would this be for pressing a vent button? If not, any ideas as it always bugs me as it seems to serve no purpose.

Got mine down to 0 for the first time today and drove a couple of miles...too scared to see how much further it would go! The revs went a little funny when ideling too.

Never had mine on 0 miles before, but if ever I do I know now that I can do a few before the kangeroo hops start

Good info in this thread [B)]

Im sure the trip meter over compensates these figures - the manual states that when the warning light comes on there is still 7.5 litres of fuel left, and its roughly 5.5 litres to the gallon - so good for another 50 miles+ in my 100bhp tdi

It's only 4.546 ltrs to a gallon so be carefull
