Dealer Remaps?

When i was talking to 2 dealers to buy my cupra, one mentioned they are getting alot of requests to remap to 300bhp on delivery. The other dealer also said West yorkshire police ordered 2 black cupras and had 300bhp dealer remap.

Im working nights for a few days and not got time to ring the dealer and ask but is it true that the dealers are doing remaps? If so, does this keep your warranty?

Info would be appreciated. Im sure its cheaper to go elsewhere but if the dealer is offering remaps then theres a lil bit more security there...

There are one or two who sell with a remap, but they are not SEAT approved. However if something went wrong, the dealer would probably have to stand good for any costs.

Cars abroad (forget which country) can have a SEAT approved warranty backed Revo map from the dealer.

Guys this is a really interesting subject, I'm expecting my Cupra to arrive next week and really want to tune it up to the 305hp that allot of tuning companies state they can get from the engine, but I too am very worried about the warranty being voided in this case.

The other alternative is that I make the 40 mile trip to Autotechnic to un-map the *******, then after the service make my way back to remap it again. 80 miles and a £150 service, the cost is already adding up.

Revo say there's a checksum in the ECU that gets incremented every time you flash another MAP to it. Meaning if you don't reset this after restoring the stock map data, its blatantly obvious you've flashed the ECU yourself and your warranty is invalid.

It would be blinding if you could just have it done and leave it due to it being approved by the stealers.

Eagerly await any other information you can add to this, I really want a 300+hp Cupra

The flash counter is not incremented by anyone with the right tools, that all the respected tuners will be using

No UK dealer will offer a genuine warranted remap though

Maybe I should have asked this question first, if I were to use Revo SPS1 device to flash the standard MAP back in prior to taking the car for a service.

Would the SPS1 take care of the flash counter and reset it, so as it to appear as if it has not been touched.

Rather than bazz it back and forth from the Tuners every time it goes for a service. You might as well buy the SPS tool if it does the job.

Ultimately, I just don't want to get found out for chipping the car and invalidate the warranty.

SPS doesn't increment the flash counter (it's not flashing it)

okay, I guess its going to be turning it ON/OFF if its not flashing it ;-)

So the MAP on there is still the REVO MAP, which kind of makes me think that its clear as day for the dealer to see or interrogate should they want to.

Getting slightly more off topic

Any idea how to approach this, are there any mapping/tuning tools out there that allow you to flash your own ECU with their performance MAP or flash in the stock with your own laptop.

I wonder if that would take care of the flash counter?

I contacted RSTuning in Leeds and they told me that regarding warranty, the dealer would have to prove in court that the remap affected the parts directly.

When you go for a service, do they even check the ECU? If not then its all ok i suppose unless something blows up.

Currently when you take your car to the dealer for a service, they'll plug it into the computer & reflash the ECU as required IF there is a software update.

If you ask them not to, just sign the disclaimer - which is as good as admitting it

I think he's saying if he takes them to court if they refuse to repair the car.
A warrantee doesn't legally have to be offered. You have statutory rights to use to claim. Which if they refuse you can take them to court to decide the outcome. In which case Seat (dealer) would have to prove that it was affected by modification.
Anyway, in the first 6 months of ownership it's the retailers (dealers) responsibilty to prove that it wasn't faulty when they supplied it to the customer. They try and fob you off by saying Seat UK will have to authorise any repairs for the warrantee, but it's the retailers responsibility to sort it out. Seat UK and ES are effectively a third party.
