Hi,

I'm having issues with the front suspension of my MK4 TDI.

I'm thinking about replacing the ARB with one of a Fabia VRS but can't seem to find part numbers or anything.

Tried the search but didn't find anything... could someone please help?
So I need the bar itself, and the bushings.

Also gonna replace the top mounts I think ... lot's of knocking noise when I drive bad roads... :(

The Cupra's ARB is 20mm I think... and from what I've read here... the Fabia's is 21mm...

So why not take that... :)

That comes with the Polly bushes too for fitting

Well, I'm not from England... that's why I tought it would be easier if I had the part numbers, than I can go to my dealer to order the parts.. :)
 
Just looked at on-line spares 4 ya... Yet they were only showing 18,19,20mm ones. Then again the newest model year they show is 2005 so that's likely y!
If no luck try the Briskoda.net I'm sure they'll have it;-}. Not to knock all the wonderful chaps on here.

Would you like to explain somewhat more? I tought an ARB was normally used against body roll motion ? So a stiffer one would mean that the car leans less to one side? Or am I wrong with this ?

Otherwise, if someone has the Cupra partnumbers... that's only 1mm thicker.. so it would be better to use this one ? :confused:

If you fit a stiffer front anti roll bar, it'll effectively give the front end less grip, causing it to understeer more than it already does. Its a very common misconception that the loer and stiffer your car is, the better it will handle, but unless the roads are extremely smooth, then this is not usually the case.

Front anti roll bar and strut brace should be left well alone on a road going diesel ibiza. Plenty of people will say that there car handles better with both fitted, but unless they have a definitive way of measuring handling then I'm not inclined to believe them.
 
Well I already have a strut brace fitted... I didn't feel much difference, the car seemed more responsive to steering tough...

So, is the Cupra's arb an upgrade then? As the car is identical to a normal 130hp sport... ?

@Skisbp: do you have part numbers of these ?

I have the front and the rear fitted to my Fabia and it is fantastick
I had the rear one done first , then the front
There is a very defiante difference with both of these
I like doing things 1 at a time so I know what I an getting for my money
If you need a front ARB then definately go for a stiffer one
The OEM one needs the bushes to go with it and the one we sell and I have on my car , was approx £35 more for the uprated one aganist the standard one with the bushes on top
I would reccomend anyone to go for it
We talk about understeer and over steer , but this is more aboput track days than on the road , having a bit of fun on twisty roads
I do Woodhead pass every day , and it handles sooooo much better with them on
Just my 2p worth

Yeh because FRs, Cupras etc are the best handling cars in there class aren't they?

Seat also wouldn;t agree that fitting a set of quality coilovers will improve the ride and the handling, by your thinking, as they dont fit them standard. Standard fit parts are always going to be a compromise in certain areas.

Having worked in the this industry for a few years, I think I have a rough idea what I'm talking about, and I bet if you were to drive a car with an ARB fitted, and one without, you couldn;t tell the difference. The amount of lateral G that it can sustain will be the same, so the car will have no more physical grip. As to wether the 'handling' would be better, then thats a subjective matter as handling preferences vary from driver to driver.

Sorry but you're advertising that you sell these items, so theres no way you;re going to say they dont work. And understeer and oversteer are nothing to do with track days. A car will understeer or oversteer on the road just the same. If this was a track car, then I wld definitly advise an ARB, but its just not needed on a road car.

Then again, its not my money, so if the poster wants one, then by all means go out and get it.

I have got both on my car , I am not poushing for a sal in there
I never oush
I can advise , and on this with my experience
I am 43 years old and been in the modding for nearly 5 years , driving alot of cars
My car , I do 150 mile round trip , over the Woodhead pass , that is great for tight twisty roads
I have noticed a huge amount of benifit from fitting these ARB`s
I am not in no way trying to sell them to the guy cos I have them

But from what you are saying , does that mean that everything I say is rubbish? just cos we advertise on here?

Yes of course it is
heavier engine , and more performance has to have a stiffer ARB
I cannot understand why a rear ARB was never put on as standard

carry on the debate!...very intriguing! as i thought that it was all a pshcological thing i.e. putting an induction kit on, you hear the sound and think 'IM going soooo much faster than before' when really its either the same or the difference is only on paper.

when i fitter my coilovers and strut brace the car DID respond quicker to my steering input..it stayed in a closer line around twisty bends!....my example is this..

if the standard spring was 100mm and for every time that your car rolls the spring compresses 30mm, that 30mm is the time BEFORE your car reacts to turn, whereas coilovers have a much stiffer spring meaning less compression...okay forget coilovers think about the cupra to the 1.2 suspension..the cupra one has much stiffer coil to aid with handling...

or maybe im just thick with no experience...:shrug:
