MK2 FR TDI - Engine warning light...

MK2 FR TDI:

I got the yellow, engine like icon popping up on dash when driving to work this morning. I don’t have my manual to hand but does anyone have any ideas what this could be caused by?

The car appears to perform as normal, gave it a good push and was very responsive etc. It idles as normal and there is no DPF light on (assuming this is the spotted exhaust type icon, never seen it lit as yet)…

I am due a 30K service in 400 miles and my inaccurate miles to service reminder has timed out for a few days now – just pops up with spanner and beeps every time I start the car. Could this be related or has something terminally went wrong…

I have had a Custom Code Phase 1 remap running for approx 5K with no issues as yet…

Any advice or thought would be appreciated to calm my nerves until I can get home to read my manual… I might try and pop into local AC dealership tomorrow to ask their opinion…

Is it like a box with 3 prongs coming out of it?

I had this light come on several times and it turned out to be an exhaust gas sensor..

i think so, prongs not pointing out if that makes sense, one looks like it should be a fan at front of 'box' / engine...

Im hopeing its not related to my ECU... I would imagine VAG COM at my dealers will point towards problem?

Did you notice any performance drops with the exhaust sensor issue? Ive got no clue about the Leon intrumentation... A guide would be nice, any pointers anyone?

Its a pretty common fault from what I hear. The sensor just gets replaced under warranty. I didnt notice any difference in performance.

Had this light 3 times Once was differential presure sensor, once was a flash update and the 3rd was exhaust emmisions control valve. Its always been generally related to that kind of area. What I've found in the past when the light has come on that it can run a bit rough occasionally. I would get it checked it out sooner rather than later though. No noticable performance drops usually but when the light came on I was more cautious anyway.

Mine came on this afternoon



No loss of power, picks up just a quickly as normal too



Covered just under 19k in her & this is the 1st instance of a fault.


Nearest dealer is Colliers in Tysley, Brum, lets hope they arent as bad a s the vauxhall dealer round the corner...............

make sure you get it done quick as it affects the dpf - the auto regeneration doesn't kick in and they WILL charge you to regenerate manually when it needs to be done. my dealer told me this so i demanded a courtesy car whilst mine was being repaired!

Booked in this wednesday 1st thing, best sort it then.... I'm going to wait whilst its sorted, last thing I want is them washing it with their yard brushes & gritty sponges.........

DPF light pinged on last night, dropped down to 3rd, booted to the redline it & it went off, done 60 mile since with no more signs of it.

Just collected her, turns out she had a faulty DPF Pressure sensor......
