so my last empty fillup was over £50 for the first time ever. which to me is now seroius money. So now i have avery, Very light right foot. it's amazing how little fuel you actually need to keep the thing moving!
i'm on 250 miles at half a tank, I'm usually on less than 200.
the cool thing is tho, u can't just drive like this, everyone has to drive like this. but everyone seems to be driving the same, coasting along where they can.
i'm sure it's not all bad...

I have a non PD TDi and it runs on 50/50 mix of veggie oil and diesel with no problems at all, if you have a PD engine you can't use it.

as long as ppl keep above 50 or so on the b roads, you can keep it in fifth gear at about 1,000 revs.....is that close to idling speed? that must be quite good for mpg?
on a PD engine, can you use 1 litre veg oil, per tank, for eg ?

well now we are at £6 a gallon on average around the country you'd think that bio-diesel would be cheaper then normal diesel. My local pump which sells B100 is asking the same price for it as normal diesel! so unless i want to buy B100 in the 1000's of litres (or knackered the car with chip fat) im stuck with Mr Brown's liquid tax

your going to have lots of people say PD's are unsuitable for anything other then normal diesel, some which say you can put anything in it and it will be fine and some that will tell you that if you put a mix of oil and diesel you'll be fine.
The actual engine WILL run with 100% oil in it BUT how long it will run without going wrong is anyone's guess really.

I used to regularly go for a spin in my motor,just for the hell of it.That's all stopped now,it's just too expensive.That's a shame.I'm sure there are loads of people on here who've cut back their motoring to the bare minimum.
How much money would you save adding 1 litre of £1 veg oil to 55 litres of £1.30 diesel?

i don't go for a random drive anymore. I used to rack up 30k a year but at the moment im on for doing about 22k My car has become just a tool for getting me to work. i can't afford to just go out and enjoy it. And when you do go for a drive anywhere you have to watch your every move because there is more than likely a copper round the next bend with a speed camera!
Is it me or are there a lot more coppers on the streets now than say, a year ago. Or is it because of the lack of traffic I'm seeing this?
Also, what's with those nosy old busybodies (I mean, residents) of towns dressing up in hi-vis jackets and zapping you doing 32 in a 30mph zone. GRR!

I may have got a warning letter for doing a whole 32mph in a 30 zone, but honestly, they were right next to the sign. If I had been intending to speed, I wouldn't have been doing 32. More like 62. Lol!
Benefits of driving a diesel car are getting smaller and smaller by the week.
Oh I don't know - my friend has a 1.6 Escort and it drinks petrol. I wouldn't go back to petrol with the prices as they are. I can get a full 300 miles more out of my diesel tank than my old petrol car (and it was supposed to be economical!) Also, it only costs about £10 more to fill up the diesel. Do the maths diesel comes out the winner. Although, diesel car prices now are just stupid! Everyone wants one, everyone pays!

I got caught doing 42 in a 30 - Which i've forever thought was a 40mph? The officer was quite good though as I explained I thought it was a 40. He asked me what speed I was doing and I said around 40 too! 
He said if I was doing 43mph it was 3points and a £60 instant fine?? 43 mph is quite random..

0-60: 8.6s
Top Speed: 134mph
Advertised av: 52 MPG
Real world av: 50 MPG
A petrol car with similar 0-60 and top speed would get a real world average of about 34-36 MPG. Definately cheaper with a diesel, as long as you do more than about 8000 miles a year.
I get 500 miles to my tank without trying. Usually 550+. My current record stands at 650 miles to the tank but on my current fill up I'm getting 59.6 MPG and look like I'm gonna get easily over 700 to the tank. Not bad going for a £60 ish fill up.
