Hi Everyone,
I'm thinking about having my Leon remapped and need some advice.

Firstly are there any down sides, ie reliability issues etc, also do you use
more fuel?

Secondly, who to use, can anyone recommend a company in the midlands?

Lastly, does it affect your warrenty?

You're unlikely to suffer from any issue that you wouldn't have anyway with the car in stock form. However you would be running at higher boost levels and putting slightly more strain on certain components, the most common issue you could come accross is a DV failure but then the latest versions from the factory are quite good.
In regards to fuel consumption it's dependant on a couple of major factors...
1. How heavy your right foot is
2. Who's remap you use
There is a lot out there for your car but not all of it is worth paying money for!
If you drive very aggressively and intend to use all of the cars potential as much as possible then you will notice a reduction in fuel economy, however for 'normal' driving (daily stuff) you're more than likely to see very similar economy figures if not a slight improvement. I find the issue with these cars is its very easy to want to overtake everything you see so you don't get great economy!
Where in the midlands are you? We have numerous dealers we can recommend to you, or we're actually based in Daventry ourselves.
I hope this answers some of your questions!

You are more likely to need a replacement Diverter Valve if you have a remap.

Factor in Insurance costs also.

apart from that, its well worthwhile

Sadly remaps are not magic; more power, means more fuel. So if you use the extra performance that would be available then your mpg will drop, but not massively.

If you drive 'like for like' (and by that i mean accelerate at the same rate, drive at the same speed etc etc) then it wont use more fuel, some swear they get better mpg.

There are many people who have had remaps on the MK1 leon, some for more than 8 years without issue. As said about you are clearly going to put more strain on some parts as there is more power. However when you consider that for 99% of the time when driving you are not accelerating aggressively there is no difference 99% of the time.

The leon you have is clearly a newer model and there is as yet less data to support long term use; but the fundamentals are the same and i have not seen any issues with those who have had a remap.

There are many different dealers available and i would advise doing some searching on here for some information. This is a great forum once you find your way around it and many members go out of their way to help. - But note we are a little sarky and quick to take the p1ss now and then :)

I believe they use less fuel under normal driving as you dont have to rev it so much, due to the fact you have more power lower down the rev range.

True. as for the DV i'd say it's more down to your driving style, i prefer O.E.M DV's but if you're going to be driving the car hard a lot of the time an upgrade may be prefered.

Not sure if am on the same topic but what is the common setup for a remap? what would the average joe ask for? would you just go up to them and say can you optimize my car for performance and save mpg?

99% of remaps are a standard piece of code which isnt adjustable, what your referring to is a custom remap, which would obviuosly cost more.

i can thoroughly recommend p-torque in wolves... Will is an awesome chap and the map he gave my mk1 tdi Leon is awesome. It pulls nicely through all the gears now.

What about Blow-Off Valve, my workshop suggests me to install one in my Cupra within a tuning which I'm planning to make very soon .. ??

The only point of a blow off valve is to make noise.

DV re-uses hot air while BO forces to get a new portion of cold air from intake each time you boosting. Also BO costs less ....Well, besides a stupid noise that it does any competitive between BO and DV (cons & pros) ... I heard BO makes ECU go crazy (MAF issue with improper amount of fuel injection)

Well you can buy a Forge BOV for the 2.0T FSI, but thats purely for noise making. no performance benefit.
