Hi all, need some help and i have to move fast, for the salvage yard will not hold onto the car for me, at the moment i have a Seat Toledo V5 150bhp, thinking of doing engine conversion to a 1.8 Turbo 180 bhp, would this be difficult, what would i require and what can be used from my toledo, just gathering information.
Have to move fast, getting full car Seat Leon Cupra 180 bhp, minus few panels and doors, front end damage, radiator missing, but has all i require to do conversion i think.
Lets us know what you think, should i , should'nt i , any guidance and advice, anything , what is worth mentioning to me, much appreciated, thanks, from the big brother Toledo, to the little brother Leon

depends on how much its gonna cost for the donor car tbh, its doable, but how much is a 20vt toledo? or dont they do them?

Salvage yard are asking £1000, for the car , cut in two, yep you've read right cut in two, due to insurance purposes.

I believe its been done before, there should be more than enough room to drop the new engine in. How many miles has the 1.8T done? Offtopic nice looking motor!

Thanks for the comment on my car, the engine has done 58k, but been doing some serious homework this morning and its not looking to good at all , the salvage guy is been a bit pushy, he's manners or really putting me off, really had a good talk to a couple of people over the phone, all helped in their ways, some of the comments they have made:-

To do a engine conversion on a modern car is not as easy as doing one on a older car, for instance, Golf mk1 + mk2's

E.C.U's might reject certain things, could be re-programmed, all more cost at the end of the day.

Phoned the salvage guy asked if car comes with a key, which was pointed out to me, because of been salvage, answer was "NO", so that means, got to get another key made and programmed, cost of £180.

Have'nt heard the engine even running

So at the moment it's not looking to good at all, not to worry tomorrrow's another day.

I thought about doing the same thing. But think it works out cheaper to sell your pride and joy then put the money towards a 1.8T or a cupra r. I think the insurance would be a killer too as it is modified. Trouble is the work you have done on your car, would you really wanna get rid of it?

If you retain your old dash panel insert with the immobiliser in it you can then easily code it too the new engine ECU from the 1.8t;) Everything else should be more or less a straight swap if you have the complete front end.

Personally I wouldn't bother. The 1.8t engine is a great engine but I love the torque and low down grunt of the 2.3 V5, having said that mine is the 170 bhp version[B)] and I haven't driven the 150 bhp version for ages as a comparrision. As the yanks say " there is no substitute to cubic inches " unless you turbo or supercharge it:doh:

On the way to work this morning I was wondering what V5 170 bhp would be like turbo'd, then on the way home in the pooring rain with the traction warning light on most of the time I realised it would be pointless half the year:shrug:

Coming to the way of thinking, just leave the idea of engine conversion, can get mine remapped that will take it to about 167bhp, better response on throttle pedal and eliminate flat spots, better on fuel aswell and saves me the hassle, but still might think about for the future.
Like what i was told today, why go through the hassle of putting a leon cupra engine in,when you would go through the same hassle by putting the leon cupra R engine in, better engine and more bhp.
The amount of information i have gathered today, has been really useful, like the Seat Toledo V5 has two ECU's, one for engine side and the other for all other electrical side's, i now know it can be done, but to find a LCR, complete front end with key, will be abit rare.
Insurance has been rang and they have told me, that they would want an extra 30%, for the extra 30 bhp and engine conversion, thats if i was taking it too 180bhp standard with the AUQ engine, can you just imagine if i told them it was a LCR engine, which had been re-remapped taking it too about 260 bhp:-o
I have had my Tolly for two years now, must be the longest time i have kept a car, have already had on e-bay with a very high reserve, but people just want something for nothing, after all the work and money i have put in, they think they can have it for peanut's and drive away, comment's made like Seat Toledo's don't fetch alot, not as good as BMW's and VW's and so on, you know what "STICK IT" in polite words, had a number of cars BMW's and VW's and i can honestly say the Seat Toledo v5 is one of the best kept secrets, i have known, plus i have had a grilling from all i know, who all admire my Tolly.

Adding an extra cylinder would be a better option, 3.2 V6 from a TT would be a nice engine in a Toledo, quite an easy swap I would of thought.

Nak I know what you mean about selling SEAT's, I'm having the same problem trying to sell my Cordie SX, some of the offers I have had wouldn't even of paid for the 4 new tyres that it's got on it :(

You wouldn't find a FWD 'box though, so you'd have to go the whole hog and fit the 4wd drivetrain :headhurt:

3.2 V6 out of a TT or R32... or a 2.8 out of the MkIV V6 - it's the more expensive option whichever you go for

You know what, your a great crowd and thats what i love about this forum, don't worry i won't be going anywhere, slapped my head a few times  and i'm ok now, think i'm thinking straight again.
Phoned up the guys who done my bodykit today, told them when could i bring my Tolly in, get the rear window spoiler done and finish off the fog lights, so it's booked in fot the 1st SEPT, next thing i done is exhaust replacement, for my rear bumper has space for a dual exhaust (either side), so thats on the agenda and would want to convert my wipers, to a single wiper arm with blade, already enquired about that, so i'm back on track, must get it finished this year.
THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT

I'm 99% certain you could retain the original V5 box, flywheel and clutch assembly. As you say the R32 would be an even better donour, complete engine with ancillaries, wiring loam, engine ECU and exhaust down pipes, I reckon I could do the swap and have it running again in the same weekend:lol:

Nak I think you have made the sensible choice, spend a little bit more and do all the small finishing touches that have been annoying you about your Toledo and start enjoying it again.

you wouldn't need the whole key just the chip out of or the head of it itself would be better

personally for the time money and thrill factor if the v5 needs rebuilding i'd run lower compression and supercharge it.

if the donor was an S3 with running gear would be a different story though :)

On the subject of supercharging, does anyone out there supercharge a V5, found a site that supercharge VR6's, but nothing on a V5, gave them a bell aswell, just out of interest and they told me, don't do V5's, so we can come abit stuck, there aswell, unless someone else out there, can shed some light on superchagers for a V5 hmmmmmmmmmm.

not going to be popular click buy bolt on job for sure btu with some maths and research luck n skill can be done

http://www.rotrex.com/

is where i'd be heading

just seen one of theirs used on a Ford Duratec in a caterham - mental thing

Super charging is the way forward, Audi are just about to bring out a new 3.0 V6 with a supercharger sat in the middle of the V, rumours are the next model RS4 is going to be using a highly tuned version of this engine ;)

if you want a 18 20vt just buy one they made a 20vt tolly selling for a simalar price as the same age lc

also if you buy silver you can swap everything over at no extra cost:p

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but i might get shouted at for starting another one :p

Basically looking at V5'ing the Leon purely for originality and uniqueness.

Now been looking around the 'bay and other parts sites, these engines seem to be in short supply.

I would obviously need the engine, gearbox, loom and ECU,

Has anyone got any prices/ideas of where to look or who to ask and would it be a simple job.

Cheers
