question is who to get a remap from?? i know theres lots out there but my m8 got a garage and he starting to do remaps from this companyplus if i buy him a few shandys i might get m8s rates..:D http://www.rica.nl/chiptuning/.....

guess it depends how much you trust your mate, also price.also i think i might be wrong cos im new here put k&n filters are oily which is what u dont want,im pretty sure if u search filters on here either green cotton panel filters or those big forced indution ones are the best.i could be wrong tho so search and all will be revealed.

have you looked into any other companys i had my lcr mapped few weeks ago by custom code and i can tell u service, price and map are all very good.

where are you based, and I would sure not choose a product based around the fact that you might get mates rates

what experience do the company have of tuning VAG cars, what is their after sales support like, are they recommended from other tuners

I am guessing they solder the chip onto your ECU from the looks of their pics, which quite frankly is old hat, and all VAG upgrades i.e. remaps are done by flashing the ECU

what makes you choose this company over better or more well known tuners like Revo, Custom Code etc?

just a few things to think about for you there fella.... :)

Go for tried and tested .Personally i would not choose a physical ecu/chip re solder when serial port mapping is so easy and effective. As mentioned Revo, Custom Code and others such as Jabba and Performance Torque to name some of the popular brands offer good performance gains for the LCR.

im based in Hertfordshire.
from what i can gather this is a new thing for them...the Garage that is ..not Rica...
and its a remap there no soldering involved....

ive not choosen them yet just seeing what other peeps think weather its a bad move or not....
from what i can make out from the chat i had with my m8 there after sales support is very good....but there again he might say that because hes selling the product.

but they do know there stuff about cars....but like you pointed out do they know about remapping....

i have just red this thread, and i cant stop laughing,i love that coment about the bat phone and the light in the sky and along comes dk............... lol
thats the best line i have heard in a while! "dk THe bat phone is ringing" must be a AMd remap thread" lol....

come dk even you would have had to laugh at that one...??

back to the remaps/chips, if i was you i would see what your mate has to offer, give it a try! if it is rubbish take it off again,as for solder chips the only people i would reccomend for that is superchips they are pro's at it other wise revo or amd custom code so on there are hundreds of remap
companys!! some do a trial run if you dont like the remap they will give you your money back,
i went to a company called Ecu Evolution via ebay (some people dont like the sound of ebay or companys that advertise on ebay, its all very well slating ebay but its not till you try it can you give a honest answer) cost me with 2 rolling road runs diagnostic check just under £300 in total im happy but its what you like or want at end of the day........

hope this helps............

ps dk does no his stuff........

god i love this website!

ebay chips if you like "cheap", but if it goes wrong, does the ebay seller or tuner have a garage you can pull your car into for diagnostic trouble shooting if the chip causes problems?

no they cant, hence cheap, and you get what you pay for

I have been on here for a some time now, and seen it happen all too many times people, mostly newbies stating their car is running awful or rough, due to some unknown tuner or ebay chip seller.....and it always ends in the same thing, being told to go to a proper and well know tuner with a good reputation who has that level of aftercare

up to you, but if it was my pride and joy I sure would be taking it to an experienced tuner who can offer support in case of any issues i.e. AMD or Custom Code

each to there own i say..........................
but the remap it self isnt the problem ,when you state peoples car run lumpy or rough, normaly its component failure some where else! £ 300 isnt cheap when custom code were doing them for around £340 .mate you can get them cheaper than that !! so be careful who you slate company wise and to get the point across!!!
Would you drive all the way to whales (for example?) to get a remap done? No?if there were no other companys near you? so lets say its a 170 mile trip, the tuner from ebay does s have a rolling road and all the diagnostic tools!!!
Which you say they dont!!!
ok so you get home a few days later you have a maf problem !!! so your saying that is the remap fault/tunner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
answer NO its not that is wear and tear....or crap components...
so becareful when you say tunners dont have this and that, because, you havent got your facts right and its no good slating something if you dont no what your taking about!!

how every there are rouge traders out there im sure! but at least state this dont just point the finger at them all you could be in trouble, and this wont help the person who started the thread in the first place!

sorry just had to make that clear!

well lets analyse this shall we

but the remap it self isnt the problem ,when you state peoples car run lumpy or rough, normaly its component failure some where else

I said "mostly" newbies, having issues with their car, I did not state every issue they have is due to the map, I too am well versed in the mechanical failures these cars can suffer, which is the most common of issues, but as I said, I have been on here long enough and replied to many threads, which have sometimes resulted in the issue being a bad map

£ 300 isnt cheap when custom code were doing them for around £340 .mate you can get them cheaper than that !! so be careful who you slate company wise and to get the point across!!!

I never said £300 was cheap, but for the sake of your daily driver, and your pride and joy running correctly, the charges that companies like CC and AMD sell their remaps for is very reasonable. remember it's not just the power increase you are paying for, it's their after sales and the facilities they offer and have to deal with any issues afterwards, regardless if its the map or a mechanical failure. We all know too well that parts often fail due to increased power and strain on parts, which is a cause of the map, but the issue is not directly related to the map

again, tuners who sell these maps as said have the after sales and care to cater for these issues and the ability to resolve them quickly - Ebay tuners do not have these facilities, hence they are cheap and an immediate resolution can only be delayed due to the fact they do not have any of these problem/diagnosis facilities to hand. So it pays to pay that extra bit more to know your car is in very capable hands

Would you drive all the way to whales (for example?) to get a remap done? No?if there were no other companys near you?

yes I would actually, because no distance is too far to ensure the job is done right,

I live in Surrey (South London ish) and I went to AM Motorsport to have my MK3 cupra done - which was in Wales (Cardiff)

I went to Jabbasport to have my Mk3 cupra remapped (Peterborough)

I have been to P-Torque in Wolverhampton to get my big turbo conversion done

so becareful when you say tunners dont have this and that, because, you havent got your facts right and its no good slating something if you dont no what your taking about!!

of course, due to my complete lack of experience on this forum and the time I have spent here, I know nothing at all:rolleyes:

how every there are rouge traders out there im sure! but at least state this dont just point the finger at them all you could be in trouble, and this wont help the person who started the thread in the first place!

exactly rogue traders, and this point I have clearly stated why, and for all the reasons I have already supplied

personally I would choose a company based on reputation, aftercare and the facilities to carry this all out

Some ebay sellers may offer this, but there are not many, and I have never had any recommended ebay sellers on this site to me, hence I would never go with them, or advise/suggest to anyone on here to go with one either, but thats just my opinion, although you will find slim20vt that the majority of regular posters on here will repeat what I have said and recommend one of the forum sponsors on here like AMD, and for a very good reason(s) (which I have already stated)

each to their own, but through personal experience, it "pays" to go that little further for one of the better tuners (Dave, DK, Caveo - dont mention P-Torque;))
