Hi guys, I have been recommended this forum from the guys at deatiling world, my usual favourite place to be...

So...

I need to change my main and rod bearings along with crankshaft journals needing work as I have no oil pressure. Gutted.

Any idea of costs and for the locals a decent garage in the swansea area?

Oh yeah it's a 1999 1.6 Seat cordoba S.

And actually any ideas of what would damage them in the first place?

I love this car I really do but it is getting so expensive to run. Just when I think it's running well and spunk 250 on a bespoke stealth exhaust back box which is subtle and just perfect she's biting the hand again. Almost ready to cut ties. Any advice here would be great cause I'm at wits end.

lack of oil pressure has most likely caused the mains and bigends to wear in the first place so you'll need to find out why for sure as it could possibly be an oil pump problem or a blockage from crap in the galleries or scavenge pipe from bad maintenance and has even been known to be caused by starvation from over enthusiastic driving too mind in the past :)

could be a manner of things really but bearings will wear as soon as you rev it up if not kept lubricated correctly

So what's the most cost effective solution cause I'm skint.

And also worth mentioning it stops misbehaving as soon as it gets warm. .If that matters

how bad is it or what is it actually wrong ?

no oil pressure as in light on permananently ? noisy bottom end ?

better when warm - mmmmm

cheapest easiest test is a good flush out and an oil and filter to start

Cordoba engine

I have cordoba sx 1.6 aft 100bhp that I am going to break for spares.

you could have a complete engine it sounds cheaper than rebuilding your ;)

do you know what engine code your cordy is mate? is it the 75hp or 100hp one?

It's really lumpy when idle and stalls if I try and rev it, for a few minutes anyway then it's fine, slightly unusual noise like a high pitch whir but it runs fine. Oil is due a change but it's just touched 10k on the same oil and the engine's only done 60k and been treated like a princess.

75bhp mate 8v SOHC how much would you want for the lump and loom? I'm in swansea by the way.

see... aren't you glad you joined now

Told you you'd get a quick response :D

Absolutley, think I'm gonna give her a good flush and new oil with a swanky new filter. Gonna look at a new oil pump too...

Which leads me to my next question...

Where are the oil pumps located, how much do they cost an are there aftermarket alternatives?

Ta guys.

Thinking about a conversion now. Any ideas of a simple swap not after massive power possibly even a diesel. Any ideas of something that would fit the standard drivetrain?

Hello Mate,

would be looking for £250 for engine/gearbox,gear shift linkage, engine loom ecu etc

your cordy will have a 085 transmission needs the 020 transmission to fit a aft engine.
your drive shafts would be fine for conversion

Is that the 1.6 16v? Do you have the box too and what condition is the engine in?

high pitch whirrrr . mmmmm when was the cambelt done ?

as a quick test try running for a few minutes with the alt/pas belts off as the pas pump and alternator and belts can make similar noises when worn

it might not be as bad as you fear but check when cambelt done as it may be due and noise could be the tensioner/idler on that

My thoughts exactly. I bought the car with 50k on the clock and it had the belt done at 48.
Car's mow done 60. Think it's due a change. Also think the lumpy idle when cold might be a sensor. Got proper worried about oil pressure so I changed it after work last nght. Oil's a lovely golden brown and whatsmore the oil pressure light never came on.

Is it essential to change the oulleys with the belt? proper broke and I don't have any timing tools.

if they changed just a belt previously it might be the original pulleys as such that are now starting to wear out

personally cam belt wise i always change a whole kit just for that reason and at a guess at £15 a belt and £35 a kit roughly it's a no brainer really but you might not even need to go that far

crap cold tickover and fine when warm or vice versa is usually the famous inj temp sensor

i would suggest getting someone to look at it as it could just be a worn alt belt or dry power steering pump

a bit of spraying wd40 over the drive belts (alt/pas) and round the pump when running might help track the noise down

Flapper thnk you dude. Will get on to it asap. In work at the mo hence rushed posts and bad spelling  .

So your saying £35 for a kit. It'd be a garage jobbie. Any idea of how long it'd take them so I can try and figure out a cost?
