I'm 17 right now, and have a 1.4 1996 8v ibiza, I intend to keep it till I'm 21 or 22, I want some coilovers, nice alloys, a decent exhaust and intake system, maybe even go for an engine change in a couple of years, possibly an vr6 if I can find a cheap one.

Then at 21/22 supercharge it and turn it into a little track/play car whilst buying a sexy cordoba for a road car. At UNI I will be studying motorsport engineering so I should be capible of getting the most out of this car with abit of thought.

Is this plan actually viable? Are their any faults between the cordoba and the ibiza that are very different? Because I love Seats, I love how they are similar but very differnt to alot of cars and how you rarely see them.

Any ideas welcome, suggestions for this plan will certainly be appreciated.

Cheers, Ash

Ive never done anything major to a motor like what your talking about, ive just worked my way through the Ibiza ranks from a 1.3 when 17 to my now 2.0 16v at 24. i know from reading things on here that it maybe better to start off with a 16v or 8v if your looking at a engine conversion because its not as easy as just slotting the lump straight in, breaks ect have to be changed and i am sure i read somewhere that someone changed the rear axel.......Anyways....if your studying it and you can combine course work with the work on your motor and get your hands on cheap parts then why not dude. Everyone has a dream and its your cash.

hmm, ok. yeah i know with an conversion because of the sheer weight at the front end, ill have to get better brakes, suspension, but i didnt think about axles and stuff... i could get a heavy duty one machined i guess.

The back axle is swaped over because it gives you rear discs, if you want to do that you would be better buying a cheep 16v with a scrap engine and doing it whatever way you want, otherwise look at insurance and everything first.

ive seen good valvers go for sub £1K and bad ones for half that on ebay.

so at 20/21 its viable to buy at least an 8v gti and then go about charging it or whatever you wish.

i had my 8v at 19 with a crash behind me and 1 years NCB and it was less than my old poxy 1.1 Saxo.

I like your thinking :)

But instead of trying an engine upgrade it might be easier to buy a 16v or 8v and swap the parts over from your 1.4 which you have upgraded.

That's how I have done mine but then I have never got round to the engine part.

sounds like a good plan and with you studing it you should have good knowlage of what to do id defo go for a vr6 as they sound awsome! theres a guy on here vr6boy i think hes done it!as regards getting a cheap valver to do it to the thing is you get attached to your 1st car (i still have my mini from when i was 17)so why not do it your car and bulid up the parts over the years,ie engine, give it a full rebuild to your spec, bracks, rear beam etc,you could even do all the mods ready for puting the engine in a few years time!
anyway good look mate hope you do it

Now that is an idea. Think I will do the same with my car. Build up parts for it, brakes etc.

thats really good advice and kinda the things i was looking at doing, but will the vr6 engine actually fit into the 1.4 8v bay?

But you really will need to get a rear axel and uprate all the breaks etc. There is no way you want to be driving a VR6 ibiza around using the pony 1.4 brakes - they are bad enough at stopping the 1.4!!!

Would probably work out cheaper to build one into a cheap GTi, especially as the price of larger engined cars are going down at the moment.

well ive got a couple of years before i actually start doing anything massive, but i promise it will all be done right

well id say get a rear axle when you see one, rebuild it ie new drums pads bearins etc, then thats ready to go on when you have time!sounds like you got a good plan!
