Turbo 'Pshhh'

Morning all,

Had the LCR 3 days now and loving it more and more! I have smoothed and drilled the airbox so getting a nice 'pshh' sound however it isn't very loud. Is there anyway i can increase the noise without changing the hyperboost valve? I know the easiest way is to fit a 'dump' valve but the hyperboost valve really reduces lag so wanna keep that! Would changing the standard pannel filter do the trick?

honestly never heard of a 'hyperboost' valve, but putting a green cotton panel filter will increase the noise from the dv. Honestly this has been covered so many times, let me first welcome you to SCN and second advise the use of the search facility.

thanks for the reply, its just a replacement diverter valve really that was fitted when the map was done.

Will go search now, ta

Ah yes i suppose that would work removing the sound proofing, does this cause any other problems, ie increased heat in the engine bay?

Some say that the heat can have adverse effects on the bonnet paintwork but I have yet to see any proof myself.

If you want a louder Ptshhhh, then the best route is an open cone air filter, fit a new DV (sounds like you have a new one), Turbo Inlet Pipe & then remap it.

I think the loudest Ptshhh-ing Leons have been those with the above mods and a TurboSmart Dual Port Kompact DV.

i looked at running a new cold air feed to my air box but couldnt find an easy way through. wanted it to be as low to the ground as poss but a route from box to floor is not that easy. unless im missing something?

haha I bet that would do the trick!

It's funny I always used to associate the 'psshh' with chavs and now I have a turbo I doing the same! The LCr can get away with it though, at least it's not a Nova!

Removed the sound proofing under the bonnet has made a big difference. Will run a co9ld air feed into the bottom of the box and a green cotton panel filter and that should do the trick.

Metal closed filters make a louder noise than open ones, so in order of noise;

Remap
Enclosed metal filter i.e RamAir

Remove bonnet sound deadening
