Here comes my crazy idea to start 2010 off with...

I have 2 passions in life at the moment, cars & computers. Cars for personal, computers for work, so why not combine the 2? I do a lot of embedded programming in my job and if I'm not mistaken there isn't any SEATS around that have a sport button!

Now... what could a sport button incorporate:think:? So far Ive got the following;

1. Stiffer / lower suspension (Blistein coilovers)
2. Changing a map on the ECU. (Can this be an instant swap??)
3. Switching between 1 or 2 cold air feeds??
4. Change all the dash lights like the new VXRs :D hehe
5. Switchable exhausts tones... seen them around before, not sure who makes them though..

This is where I need some help... what else could this include? If this seems remotely possible then I'd use my Toledo as a test bed for it!

Half of me thinks this idea is nuts... but I still want to give it a go!

:help: Your thoughts please! :help:

If you're talking about switching between maps, something like Revo with various settings would be the way to go. Just link your sport button with it.

Different colour dash lights would be quite cool, a little hollywood though lol

Sounds like a pretty fun project actually

1. Tein do controllers that adjust the rebound setting on top of the shock, if not there's electromagnetic dampers around which stiffen up when the magnet is off..
2. Possible, if the original memory is say a 29F400BB then you can stack 2 maps in a 29F800BB and switch between the memory addresses on-the-fly, unlike most switching options which require ignition on/off cycle etc.
3. Really worth it?
4. Sounds good, but you'd then need to solder new SMT LEDS to everything, possibly adapting them to 3 pin so you can swap the colors easily, instead of running 2 leds side by side and switching one off, one on..
5. Vacuum control box, or solenoid and vac operated valve in exhaust.

Kev

1. Thanks for that, would make more sense than having it lowered :p
2. Right, didnt think it would work without an ECU reboot. Thanks for that
3. Not sure, thats what I want input on...
4. Well I was thinking more of having them fade accross more smoothly than just on off, I already have some printed PCB board that has that on it (just made as a test between 4 LEDs)
5. Can you explain more? Anything in the market like that already?

VW R32's, RS6 etc use similar vacuum operated valves in the exhaust which usually bypass silencer boxes or turn exhaust tips on and off.. Usually connected up to a solenoid which basically provides atmospheric pressure (valve closed (via spring)) or vacuum (valve open) via a vacuum reservoir.

As for the leds, how would you place a transition board in things like clocks etc where current LEDS are surface mounted behind the dials etc?

Kev

Thanks for the exhaust info... yeah the clocks and aircon system too... I dont know tbh! any ideas? Doubt anyone does mods down to LED level anywhere.. Like I say I havent got this down to a fine art... just an idea really!

"the new seat leon cupra - now with a sport switch function (like an M-series bmw) - £30,000. forgive me for sounding negative but this sort of thing thing would end up costing seat alot of money to develope and this would reflect the end cost of the cars without doubt.

I think he's just doing it himself mate, no mention of production :)

I think the idea is very doable given the wealth of technical knowlege on the forum, go for it!

oh ye i agree totally i was just mentioning that it would rocket production costs.

Yeah Art0ir, its purely a "because I want to" project, It may even turn our pretty good in the end! No mention at all of mass production, just lil old me! And some techy help from you guys... I know MikeFR+ will be interested in this one! Need more input for ideas too MJ..

you have my blessing my friend :D i believe amd offer switchable maps via the cruise control switch, not sure if its suitable for diesels though and as already mentioned it may still require the old on/off switch of the ignition.

like the mega-bucks Astra which has the sport button which does stuff like sharpen throttle response, quicken the steering and firm up the damping? the button can also be used to switch between maps, particularly on FI cars

Looks like I need to go talk to AMD about the remaps! Suspension should be fathomable! As for steering...that's beyond my capabilities. Thanks MJ! Looks like it's going to be;

Suspension
Colour of dash lights
Exhaust pitch change (jabbasport may need more info!)
Switch from airbox to cone, or from 1 feed to 2.

Any more suggestions welcome!

It wouldn't cost much for SEAT to develop at all, its a button that acts as a switch, like a TCS button on a LCR / Ibiza Cupra for example. Plus I'm sure there are a few cars in the VAG range with a "sport" button already

what about water spray kit , if you have a FMIC get it rigged up to skirt over the cooler ,

there again some say it brings the temps down , some say it was not worth doing

i may do it but not anytime soon , other things planned first :)

Supersoaker 3000 for the win!

That would probably be wayyyy down the list...maybe suspension is No #1
