hi guys, my father in law has an altea, and is doing my head in,

he bought he car and dash reads kms wher mileage is read from.

how can i convert this to miles?? can i do it easily or will i need vagcom?

i have proper vagcom, and would love to how to do this, i went to instruments on it and it came up with warnings about stuff, so as i hadnt a clue, i backed up slowly and removed the lead! lol

my future father in law is like the proverbial mother in law, a major pain so any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you just want to change the odometer reading from kilometers to miles?

If so:

Select control module 17-Instruments.
Write down the current soft coding.

You need to change the market version code to correspond the one for GB.

The third byte in soft coding should currently read 1 (which is market code for europe).
You need to change it to 4 in order to make the odometer read miles instead of kilometers.

So from xx1xx to xx4xx

Advanced functions -> Coding-07 -> type in the modified code and press do it.

would this affect the modification??

Did you make the change already or?

Your cluster is already set to Great Britain, so the odometer should read miles.

Dunno about the trouble code thou.

Speedo reads miles, digi reads kilometers because the speedo dial only has an mph scale & not an mph AND kph scale as most cars have.

yeah havnt changed it, speedo reads mph but records distance travelled in kms, is there no way to change it then?
