Opinions?

Can't help but notice the laughably low prices that Mk2 Beezas go for, it seems £1500 will get you the mintest of the mint 16V GTI with low miles (I've just paid £800 for a 16v minter albeit on 122K) whereas you'd only be scraping the bottom of the barrel if you went for its main rival the Clio Williams. Do you reckon the values of MK2 Ibiza GTIs will increase in the next 10 years? It's not like they haven't got racing pedigree either (F2 Rally Champions).

No. The mk2 was a good car, but it didn't excel at anything. I expect it'll go the way of the Almera GTi - largely forgotten, with a smaller group of enthusiasts who are 'in the know'.

It will be, but its how long you have to wait for it to be one. There's a lot of shite rolling around at the moment which doesn't make em look good. In ten years time when only the good ones are left then they will start to go up. Cars become sought after classics when the people owned them first, get to an age where they want one again to remind them of their youth.

MK2 Golfs are going through this at the moment.

There have been plenty of cars that didn't rewrite the rules but are now considered classics. Early Escorts, Beetles, Corrado's, Renault 5's (not just the GT and turbos) etc

In Sweden the 16V GTI is pretty expensive, altough its not that common here either, one in mint condition would cost around 3600 £

in a nutshell "nope"

as they are a "lower spec car" compared to VW's etc, they will never be classics, a shame really, as they are great cars, but in a way if they were classic, would we be owning them? i know i wouldn't as i couldn't afford it if it was VW money tbh :D

Almera GTi:confused:?
lol

Yep, Almera GTI

Very good cars actually, same size as a 306 GTI but slower and more reliable. 150bhp from a 2.0 16v twin cam, I think its the same engine as the Nissan 200SX just without the turbo. I quite like them and probably would have got one if I didn't get my valver. Like the Mk2 Ibiza I think they are excellent Value for money.
