I'm with OCD, having owned one and been in the scene this is utter garbage. One of the most reliable of the Jap rockets.

Isn't it funny how theres always someone with a mate who had one and it was rubbish with any car!

its usually people that have owned a poor example that seem to think this.

Japenese turbo cars are mega reliable if looked after correctly. If you buy a cheap one thats not had the best life your wallet will suffer.

As is the norm with Jap stuff you just have to buy wisely, there are far to many "specialist" importers flooding the market with tatty examples, that it becomes a challenge to find a decent one.

the SR20DET in the 200sx is very very very reliable, the problem comes when people buy them, dont really know what they are doing, fit a cheap boost controller and turn it right up. but dont adjust the fueling to suit. cheap ebay parts and mods have a lot to answer for!

Then they chew engines.

My MR2 turbo was 18 years old, i owned it for 3 years and not a single day was it driven gently, it was tracked, taken to the pod, and it never, ever went wrong. All that needed replacing was the original rad as it had just rotted away, and the alternator as i managed to damage it.

buy one thats been looked after with lots of history and it will do well.

The 200SX in question has been seriously loved and had serious amounts of time and money spent on it with top quality parts.

Interoker hoses kept blowing off noo matter what he did they just came off under load???? Witch I did post up yes there's always a mate who's had one and I'm sure if one of your mates had commented on here they would have said " my mate had one and it was an amazing machine" at the end of the day it's down to personal experience and preference was just saying my pice if you read on I changed my mind after I had seen the car and it's history

I personally cannot believe nissans reliability is being questioned here...(pre renault)

I was gonna get one of these a few years ago- a step up from the SR20DE of the Alemra GTi I owned, but got a 150 TDI mk4 golf.

My friend had one on about 300BHP, it was a monster and great fun. Never let him down once.

Loved mine, in the end I stripped it out, roll cage, buckets, coilovers, stage 2 tune with FMIC and Nismo injectors and R33 GTR wheels, was an absolute animal at the relative normal tune, made it nice and driveable but with the weight reduction v pokey. Was somewhere in the region of 300bhp+ shame was I just never got to use it on track so I sold it :(

Now its been in the drift championships for the last few years - so glad the bloke who bought it did, nice to see it getting properly used :D
