Hey

Basically my job involves VW Group parts, this week I came across a blue 02 plate Ibiza 1.9 TDI 130 Sport. I can buy it for £1200. It's done 170k Miles but had about 20 services with 3 cam belts! Mechanically all that seems wrong is that it needs 3 CV boots, nsf arm, Alt belt, Centre Exhaust and a clamp and a wing mirror casing. I can get all these at low prices and all general age related parts. It's got alot of paint marks and dents and needs a bit of work but I know someone whos amazing at that and can do that pretty cheap. It drives ok and the engine sounds alright. It had low coolant in it so I've topped it up an got that pressure testing right now. Interior is good, little wear at all.

For £1200 and around £500 parts an labour to get it pretty tidy with nothing to do. Is it worth it?

The engine is pretty much the best VAG Diesel they made, the new 2.0 TDI is fraut with issues and crap lets face it, out of warrenty and your a brave person. This 1.9 didn't really have any major widespread issues.

I was thinking of a new clutch eventually and then chipping it stage 1. Could be a cheap little pocket rocket with great MPG as long as I don't mind the mileage number on the dash. But I work with people who have and worked on Seats and VAG car for years and know the 130 engine better than the back of their hands.

So what do you guys think? Worth ago or stay clear?

well - mine was bought with 120k on the clock and has 140k on it now and has done just under 10k with a map and everything is in top order - you should ask yourself whether you could afford to loose the £1200 if the sh*t hit the fan though. If you can, I say do it!

Suppose, at the end of the day **** can hit the fan on an 80k car if it's been unloved. I'm just thinking it might be worth the risk. Hopefully shouldn't loose any money on this car.

07 ! 150k !

that means at 60mph it has been running for over 100 days!
Now going at 60 average speed is quite optimistic

Then when you account 1/3 of your life is sleeping wow...

lol, yeh ex-seat area manager's car!

somethning that made me think was looking at the stats on my phone...

I've had it since august 14th, and phone calls received and made is 9 days worth lol.

you could break it for a good price at that too id say you could sell engine gearbox and turbo and make ya money back.

thats a good price. and if all doesnt go well like joop said you can break it.
i got mine 1500 spent 600 fixing it as it was a cat d. crashed it again. now im breaking it for parts could make most my money back. so at 1200 i would go for it

I'd buy it mines got 91k on it and dealer said they would give me 2k for it

2k for a facelift???

i wnt a 1.9tdi facelift in red so so badd how much u rekon u cud get a honest one of them for?? cuz im tempted to get one next year :p:p

A word of warning - has the gearbox been changed (yet) ? I bought my 2003 TDI Sport (91K, FSH) earlier this year, then after a month and without warning, the gear selector rod between 1st and 2nd gears gave up. Cue rebuilt gearbox and a clutch while the box was off. Cost me a grand to repair.

Common problem on 6speed VW TDI boxes, apparently....:wtf:

Hmm wouldnt let that put him off, the gearbox should be easy to spot really if its clunky or sticking then the selector is on the way out.

Also havnt heard that many boxes going tbh
