Wax & Polish for a Silver LCR

Hey,

I've done a few searches and found quite a few conflicting opinions on what's best to use (and a lot of these threads where from 4-5 years ago).

So those of you that have had a silver car or currently drive a silver car, what products do you recommend Wax/Polish wise?

Totally depends on your budget and needs (ie; durability etc) but for a polish go for Autoglym SRP and then for your wax/sealant FK1000p is very good for the money and the durability is extremely impressive.

However the Werkstat Acrylic kit is very very good on silver and would probably be my choice if you want to spend a little more

Super resin polish gets thumbs up from me.

Then maybe extra gloss protection.

Then for wax i am using Dodo juice diamond white on my silver cupra.

SRP works for me too, though I also like Poorboys Polish with Sealent or Chemical Guys All-In-One polish. For wax I'm using Collinite 476's, really happy with the finish it gives and the length it lasts

As above, depends on how much you want to spend.

There are countless waxes that will work perfectly on your paint. The key to getting a good finish is the prep thats put in before hand.

SRP is popular because its widely available and gives a good finish. Its filler heavy and contains light abbrasives so it improves the look of the paint relatively easily. DoDo Juice Lime Prime would give a much glossier / wetter finish but it isnt filler heavy so wont hide the light swirls like SRP.

Not as easily accessible, but if you can machine polish the paint to get as clear / clean a finish as possible then this would be the ideal base to lay the wax down onto.

I could recommend a whole pile of products to you but these may not be in the price range or ease of use that you are looking for. Have a look at DetailingWorld or the CleanYourCar forums for info and techniques. Thats the best advice i can give you really.

Cheers gents gone for the SRP - but heard things about Lime Prime so may try that next time.

Heard great things about Collinite 476 and pretty reasonable with price so may give this a shot. Going to get over on DetailingWorld on polishing/waxing guides - completely new to this whole experience since I got a Cupra! Gone are the days of hosing the car down once a month!!

collinite is good as a hard wearing wax which i can recommend, however I am looking to get a softer wax for the summer for a better look

I wax with collinite 3 times a year, once in the spring after I've clayed, prepped etc and got all the winter salt/tar and general crap off. Again around October after another clay, to give it good protection for the winter. In the summer I don't clay but get the dead polish/wax off with a citrus wash and give it a good polish and wax again. Other times I just wash with a ph neutral shampoo and seal with dodo juice red mist. Each wax I do at least a couple of coats ...I have read that it doesn't really make much difference, but I feel better for doing it anyway .

I love the look of a gleaming car, does waxing just 3 times a year leave it with a constant gleam? Not being funny, just generally enquiring as I'm new to this

er last time i did it was early December before the bad weather, it will last for several months but on the bottom of the doors with the weather it comes off sooner as you can imagine

i've not waxed it as often as i should have since last year, think its had 1 coat before and that was it

The SRP will help to create a good finish but has no protective properties in it so wont last long or protect the paint from the elements. You need a sealant or a wax over the top to add the protection.

At least 2 layers should be applied. This not only adds extra protection to the paint but also ensures that you cover everything. Additional layers will build durability but more than 3 or 4 is a waste imo.

can't go wrong for collinite 476 as far as durability and value goes
