The strike through happened because the paint was very, very thin in the first place - this was from factory! Needless to say the customer got his bonnet fully resprayed free of charge.
Have a search for carters consumables... they used to do 3M gear for good prices, only ever used them once for some backing plates and pads though, not sure if they are still in business
As said by many it's very much each to their own, but my long standing choice, especially for German cars (which is about all I seem to do lately) is Menzerna compounds on Sonus pads and I generally get very satisfactory results with a DA polisher.
I battled with many different pad/polish combos when I started detailing and I wish someone had just recommended Menzerna at the time. Would've saved me a lot of trial and error.
I haven't experimented with too many different makes of pads, but of the ones I have Sonus have certainly proven to be the most durable for me.

I bought 3M from elite car car they were the cheapest and then I used a discount code and it was free next day delivery as I spent over £60 don't get that from many places! I used sonus stuff by hand and the clay all very good stuff actually. I didn't go for the cheapest with 3M but been told you just don't get the best results with some of the cheaper stuff. Done the job for me am very pleased. I didn't really correct much but did get rid of 80 percent of horrific bird poo stains on my brand new paintwork!
i think sonus pads will be my next choice im not all that keen on the menzerna pads although they do a good job they seem a bit rough.

I find Menzerna Intensive Polish (or Power Finish) on a Sonus SFX-1 (yellow) pad fixes just about everything I've encountered. Follow up the IP with Menzerna Final Finish on a SFX-1 (orange) pad... and bling!
If there are really stubborn areas then Menzerna Fast Gloss before the IP.

I actually used sonus sfx 1 yeh as I used that to get rid of 3000 wet sanding marks once before (I did not sand this did not want to as warranty work with guarantee on it an they are a crap body shop so might need it!). I do not have a cutting pad only yellow and blue 3m pads but seemed to do the job. I thought it was totally ruined aand was gutted as new paint obviously.
Menz power finish/power gloss on CG hex logic pads are working well for me at the moment.
Looking to try some 3M next month.

Yellow (SFX-1) is a cutting pad... and very effective it is too. Followed up by a Blue 3M is fine as well.
Not tried the CG pads, but I like the look of them in principle. Maybe I'll stick a couple on my next order of products to try them.
I find Sonus pads virtually indestructible, which is why I can't see past them.
cool I was using it with the sonus pads last year, maybe get the yellow pad sometime. Will look for any at the shows saw a few 3M bits today at a show but not what I needed.
