As the title suggests I'm looking for a bit of information as to which engine is the better between the 1.6 TDi and the 1.2 TSi.

Planning on downgrading my Boc to either an Ibiza Sport or VW Polo and was going to get either one of these engines in it, whats the general consensus?

the tdi is ok...... but people are struggling witg mpg on them, so I gonna swing to the tsi as I have heard really good things about them. and you could have more fun and more revving lol :p

Depends what your using it for, but I'd be inclined to agree the 1.2 TSI is the better choice. However as these haven't been on sale for long, you may find the retail price of one isn't far of the trade price of your Boc so you might not save much money downgrading.

The mpg is only good if you drive like a grandma :) I was shocked to hear from my colleague that she get's 5.1 l/100km on her 1.2tsi golf while I still get 7.5 :/

There are quite a few people pushing the 1.2 here but ask yourself what experience they have of the car. The DPF has been mentioned as a bug bear for the diesel, I can't remember the last time anyone complained on here about a DPF failure. In 14 months of ownership and 14.5k miles I have not had a single issue with the DPF on mine, never even had a lamp on.

But why take anyones word for it, go to a dealer and test drive both of them. Buy the one that you like and suits your needs best.

TSI!! Get it remapped to 150bhp like the FR!

If that's possible we may have a winner

I specced up the Ibiza Sport with the 1.2 TSi, speed blue, 17" alloys, Bluetooth/USB, xenon headlamps and that came in around £15k, whereas a DR Boc with Xenons was around £18.5k

Is 75 PS worth the extra £3.5k? How much would the remap cost?

Sportrider trim would make more sense for you. Comes with the Sport spec plus climate, CUP, 17" alloys and a few other bits.

I imagine the money saving exercise is going to cost you more money than just keeping the car you have tbh.

Deffo the 1.2 tsi. Got mine a month ago. Took it on a run up the A82 from Glasgow to Skye. One of the best drives in the country. Was a joy to drive and overtaking was a breeze

Went up A82 to highlands last monday, wasn't driving the FR tho, was in my mates S2K! Totally loving the roads up there and best sound track ever to, hearing VTEC kick in Yo!

1.6 tdi has gay DPF... regens etc.. so for that reason im out.

1.2 tsi seems peppy and frugal. Couldnt be worse than the 1.6 nasp petrol its replacing though, easily one of the worst engines ive ever driven.
