I am now, thanks to Motability, the proud owner of a spanking, brand new, Seat Altea XL.
Full designation:
Seat Altea XL SE 1.6 CR TDi in Black Magic with convenience pack and towbar wiring.
She was ordered in the middle of March, built on the 11th June, transported to the dealership on the 30th June and the handover took place around 16:00 today.
SWMBO loves her. To be fair, so do I.
I've already debadged the rear hatch, didn't like the reference to eXtra Large.
Changing the front indicator bulbs tomorrow. Have silver bulbs that shine orange when powered. It removes the "fried egg" effect on the reflector.
Depending on the weather, I plan to respray the front grille. Just not a fan of the chrome surround, so some very fine glass-paper, alcohol, lint free cloth, etch primer and 3 or four coats of satin black. It should make the front end look a little more aggressive.
Also thinking of giving the same treatment to the rear badge/handle.
The calipers need a coat of paint. At the moment they're the dull, factory spec, silver/grey. I've had some very good results with smoothrite pain on previous cars so will stick to that. Bright red calipers sould look very nice through the standard 10 spoje 16" alloys.
All the glass behind the B pillar is getting an extra layer of tint film as I'm used to not being able to see any bags on the back seats.
Need to fit a tow bar. Detachable, so it doesn't spoil the rear lines. Also need to wire in a 13 pin euro-plug for towing.
Last job will be a full detail of the outside. Remove all the existing polish, clay the paintwork and glass and then reapply polish. I normally use AG for everything but as she's black I might look at trying the Poor Boy's Natty Wax for dark cars.
I have a busy few days ahead.
PS End of day 1 and have 103 miles on the clock already.
