Right - cleaned MAF as the car seemed to be going from running lean to hearing a 'click' and then pouring out blueish fuelly smelling smoke.

Got into the car and in LIMP MODE + engine management light - dead maf?

No tc light

It's possible, have you got vagcom or got anyone nearby with it?:)

Gonna get it checked now asap.

Jus wanna get some opinions. All that smoke after de-cat could be just a maf on the way out, or so im hoping!

Gave her a clean and limp mode then along with EM light

My experience of maf failure hasn't resulted in smoke though, that sounds more like a turbo issue but I'll await the result of vagcom.:)

When the car is started from cold i can hear it clicking off the rich mixture and going onto a leaner mixture, that's fine, but it keeps clicking back and forth and it smells of over-fuelling when it's on the rich mixture.

I removed the wire going to the MAF and it reproduced this 'click' and the rich mixture, so it might be, I'll hopefully have it scanned tomorrow morning,

If this sorts it I'll be very happy as I too have been looking in to turbo probs but it seems to be fine.

They don't click between rich and that though, they just fuel and adjust as you rev it etc, don't know what the clicking's about.:)

Jeez this yoke is definitely going rich - which could be the maf being faulty

I can actually hear when it goes rich, it sounds different from the exhaust and more smoke,

she's on 63 k miles now and they do seem to go about the 60k mark

Maf air flow and EGR exccessive came up on VAGcom

New MAF and took off egr, was in a terrible state. Photobucket aint working, I have pics, I'll try put them up asap.

Car is still clicking from one mode into another after i leave her ticking over after a run, it sounds, from behind, as if it's going from lean to rich mixture, and I can hear a change in exhaust note and the amount of emissions after this click.

Still a stink around the car when it's running and after it's turned off though, could just be because the cat is removed

All the probs I thought I have could simply have been down to the egr valve stook open as the valve wasn't seated properly due to soot build up on it.

I'll keep progress posted

Yeh the engine just felt like it breathed so much better, the revs went up further and it had a bit more top end. It's the black sludge I don't have yet, it was all full of it originally. :)

I'm going to give it another while and keep an eye on things,

It's just the stink around the car when it's ticking over!

Could be oil in the intercooler pipes still, god there's a lot of cleaning to be constantly done on these diesels,

My dads Citroen xantia 20 tdi has 214,000 and he never had to clean out anything!!
