Your looking at about 280bhp max from a k03 hybrid and that with all supporting mods and wmi.
Depending if you opt for an aggressive map or not determines the need for fitting forged rods.
Personally I would fit them for peace of mind as ronin said the $ is very weak atm and there are some good deals to be had. Intergrated engineering are the rods most people use.

If you are looking for 300+ bhp Bill has a ko3 hybrid + kit which is basically a k04hybrid with a k03 turbine housing.

You could also go down the k04 hybrid route as I am and anything up to 340bhp can be got from this setup.

Hope this helps.

Thats awesome info thanks mate! Bet yours fecks off????? :p

Not finished yet mate, but its only got to pull along an little ibiza so it should be fun!

Fun!? bloody mental!!! Oh I do love the ibiza's only your shape tho, was very very close to buying one, I keep seeing them and thinking Oooooooooo maybe but I've come to far on my Leon now, It just keeps evolving, I'm concerned I can't stop, I have spare cash it goes into the car, problem is being on forums it makes it feel like it's ok to do that! tbh it's the only thing that makes me happy tho doing stuff on the car! 100% satisfaction!

Thanks for you info, so you think replace rods for 280bhp even, lots of LCR's are running this on stage 2 software do they have any problems??

I have to agree with you there!

Its torque that bends rods, and a k03hybrid running an aggressive map will produce enough torque to possibly bend a rod. It may never happen.. but as I said its a peace of mind thing. Plus the Leon cupra's have 19mm wrist pins which are a bit iffy at higher levels over there 20mm counterparts fitted to other 1.8t's. (LCR's have 20mm wrist pins fitted)

Most likely at work
Anyone had any issues running 250-280bhp on an LCR? Gearbox Problems, Engine failure? I'm thinking if a jobs worth doing maybe do the rods and be on the better side of luck!

up to 280bhp is just a stage 2 map with supporting mods, had mine done almost instantly and no major issues relating to it - even at 110k miles! anything over 340bhp is known to bend rods so be careful. i was considering the hybrid route before i sold up, targeted myself to a relatively safe 320bhp

i looked into BT a few weeks ago Jim, and was advised you can get away with standard internals, just has to be a careful map to restrict torque.

If your going to go higher than 280bhp id say forge it.

But up to 280, as long as your not a traffic light warrior then you should be ok... but its a lottery isnt it.

Im a bit of a freak when it comes to preventative maintenance tho, id be so pissed if i popped a piston, but as you say 280bhp is a stg 2 on an lcr and hundreds of people run that, my worry is that when combined with Methanol injection its gonna take me into rod bending country, so i may just give the meth a miss but the cooling it provides at 250bhp plus is just awesome my friend ran it on his gti with a stg 2 map and gained 35bhp running a 50/50 meth mix, definatly getting the turbo fitted over the winter along with a new clutch and a gearbox rebuild which im gonna do myself with my main dealer vw mate to keep the cost down.

Anybody used badger bill? anyone have one of his ko3 hybrids?

ahh thats interesting i assumed the internals were identical....never assume said the wise man! :D

To be truthfully honest, your better off doing a K04 conversion using your existing set-up,

K04 Set-Up for everything £1k + Remap

Easily see 260-270

there is a user on here that runs BT with standard rods... will try and dig out the topic i made, hang on.

bill @ badger is amazing, the advice he gives is spot on, his hybrids are good too :)

*edit*

here you go boss: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=323635

BT dont have the bottom end torque delivery the hybrids do though, and that is when the bending will happen. And im pretty sure it was only a gt28 he had fitted.

It has been said plenty of times before, its anyones guess if they will bend or not, but they will be deffinately be working near there limits which is never a good thing for such a critical componant.

Besides, if you are anything like me, I would be constantly worrying everytime I drive it hard that it could happen at anytime.

If you have the money mate, change them.

Also gives you a chance to deglaze the bores and fit new piston rings.

Yeah i think with the dollor being so weak ill tap up 034 and get some integrated rods and pistons just to be on the better side of lady luck! I worry ill break stuff now on stg 2 Revo! lol:D
