I have tried to read threads but there is nothing clear on what S mode does, because from experience i feel driving in manual seems far quicker.
Just wondered if anyone could shed some light on the matter.
 
revs higher before changing gears, changes down at higher revs and apparently makes the steering stiffer is what i got told when i bought it.

Your're kidding me! 'S' mode is great fun (and it can't rev higher than whatever the limitter is set to)
 
Sometimes it shifts a gear lower than what D would,

for example If i am in 6th gear, hitting the kickdown in D would put me in 3rd, while S Would usually put me in 2nd,

Unsure about the steering, ill check it out.
 
how can you not notice the difference? as soon as you put it into S it knocks it down two gears?!

S mode is so much fun!

Rev's is all it does though, the steering thing is bulls%%%
 
S is awful, it holds the rev's higher than a certain limit at all times, keeping it in a lower gear etc. I used it just to try and wont ever use it again. Manual or D all the way.
 
S is a waste of time, revs far too high and sounds horrendous, for pottering about there's D - for everything else there's Manual
 
I found D to be a tad quicker than S on the 1/4 mile @ Inters (Cheers Techie!). S will rev more than D but gives very little over D

perhaps from a stand still but there is no doubt that whilst moving, chucking it into S mode absolutely gives you more kick, this is exactly what i do when overtaking, put it into S few seconds before moving out, get the right gear to have the revs around 4500rpm then drop the foot and go round as many cars as i want.... i couldnt do that in D, the drop down takes too long and isnt safe for over taking

From my experience S mode also puts the throttle response in it's quickest mode. The engine responds much faster to small movements of the pedal.

I also tend to put the car into S when going for an overtake, and then shifting with the paddles as the revs get high. If you drive sedately most of the time, and the DSG is in an efficient mode, the response time to decking the pedal is pretty poor, and that's not what you want when overtaking!

Was that really required? Everyone drives differently. I prefer the paddles, requires more skill that just "chucking it in S" and praying to the gearbox gods to bail you out ;)
Plus I have to go between a 6 speed manual and the flappy auto car. So paddles feel more comfortable for me.

pipe down, was a joke

and there is nothing skilful about having to shift through 7 gears, its just inconvenient. the manual is there to manipulate the automatic, I wouldn't consider ever using it for 100% manual driving.

wen im ever in the mood to drive fast i always just shove it to paddles and drive normal and wen i need to overtake all i need to do is press it twice, job done, can change at 6500rpm too so no lagg ;)

Yer, I do this sometimes too but, same difference I suppose. I just prefer the drama of putting it into S mode..."Look, look! I've put it into sppoorrtt mode :funk:"
