Bit of bad news on saturday.. was driving to a friends house, pulled into the turning and as I put my foot on the accelerator, a loud bang and a 'tinging' noise started, at first I thought it was just a boost hose popped off (quite a normal occurrence because of the pressure its running) but then the engine died.. opening the bonnet and removing the cam cover it was apparent that the cam belt has completely stripped.. pretty much every one of the teeth has been stripped off.. hopefully the valves haven't bent/camshaft has ben damaged..

it is a bit annoying really, the Cambelt went a while back and was fixed by Jabbasport.. I took it down to Unit 18 this morning and let Ali have a look at it. he showed me what the problem was straight away.. it appears that the cambelt that was fitted isn't an OEM one but actually a 'pattern' part.. this was easily identified because the OEM belts are kevlar coated, the belt that was fitted to my Ibiza has no coating over it :(
It sounded like the valves have bent by the tinging noise it made before dying, just hope that its not taken out the camshaft as thats an expensive fix :(

That's bad news Paulie :(
Hopefully the damage isn't bad
Cheers matey, I'm hoping its not going to be too expensive.. only time will tell :D

yeah, just not sure on what to upgrade though.. don't think there are pistons available (I believe they're already forged) and the rods are trapezoid so they're super strong.. only the cambelt needs to be stronger ;) need to look into a 1.8T chain conversion lol

Rods are available - Rosten Rods
Keep same pistons just need ones if they are damaged.
You can get a more aggressive cam from Colt cams in the states
Injectors

With the above you will push a lot more power.

to be honest though, the standard rods should be strong enough to hold the power I'm going to put through it. The cam and injectors sound like a good idea, only problem is that I don't have the spare cash about at the minute, just paid off my boarding holiday for january and its left me a bit short. I know that injectors are going to set me back over the 1k mark and I just don't have that laying about :(

Sorry to here this, must be a right pain having no car :( Do you have any idea what make of cambelt was used, i've just had mine done using a continental belt, hopefully that will be strong enough?

it is annoying not having the car, but its not my daily so its not essential that I have it, just nice to take the ibiza out for a spin instead of the Merc Sprinter lol.
Its a completely unmarked cambelt so not got any ideas who its made by. what kind of power are you running in your ibiza?

only stage one, i did'nt think more power would put any more strain on the belt?

no its not the power that puts the strain on the belt, I was told that its how aggressively the fuel is injected is what puts the strain on the cambelt (I'm sure maz will confirm/put me straight ;) )
you should be fine with a stage 1 :D

I have been down to the hockey stadium once in the last couple of months but I don't hang around over there. Not really my kind of scene ;)
I'm pretty sure that I see your car there when I was there :)

Really sorry to hear about the bad news. Just would like to know when you had the rear number plate area and side reflectors sprayed gloss black where they removed? if so how do they come of the rear bumper.
