There DSG box on these cars are fine. A very few have had the mechatronic unit go but easily sorted under warrenty. If you're looking to keep coists down the mk5 wins hands down over the mk4 in terms of running costs with low insurance, better mpg and road tax. These cars can be modified with some folk running stage 2 with full TBE, twintercooler, Induction kit and software. These mods should see you doing 0-60 in about 5.5 secs and a 13.6 sec 1/4 mile (proven) which decimates ALOT of the other cars out there. Yes there are a few other issues with the twin charged engine such as misfires but it seems to affect a few people. I was one of them and have had the latest ECU update and spark plugs fitted and have not had any issues again.

Brilliant car. its the best of both worlds, quite and cheap when your not hooning about. And blisteringly quick when you are compared to most its hot hatch rivals. Mine is an 11 plate and I had to have the plugs changed but no problems since then. My dealer was fine and sorted the car out in two days for me.Stage 1 Remap alone should get you an extra 20-30bhp and as Jas says it will decimate most things on the road. Its overtaking power is brilliant too with a really wide powerful powerband thanks to the twincharging.

You wouldnt regret buying one. I find the DSG great too.

Mine has 16000 and has not missed a bit. The dsg is fantastic as is the engine. As people say if you get problems which you will hear on here more because of it being a forum, then warranty will sort it. I say go for it, you will NOT regret it

DSG is a lot of fun and easy to drive. The engine's very pokey for a 1.4. No issue here though only got 2300 miles or something.
I do sometimes miss manual though.. the gears in sequential are the wrong way round (ie fwd for up!?) and paddles only feel right if you're having a play.
Used about .3ltr/oil in mine, seems to be fine treated correctly.
Problems come on any car, and to echo, people are more likely to come on and say MY CAR'S F**KED looking for advice, rather than MY CAR'S AWESOME looking for praise ;)
Early DSG had issues, doesn't seem too much of an issue now though.

They are faster than the previous Cupra's... and I have just hit 11000 miles in mine and its never once had a problem ... totally reliable. The DSG gearbox is amazing at what it does. Ride is quite stiff as standard but mine is a bone shaker now as it's running coilovers. Great cars, you won't regret buying one.

This thread should be sticky :)

Its nice to see people praising their cars rather than complianing about them.

Its nice to see as I pick my 10 plate Cupra up tomorrow

Your going to love it mate. Full tank of go juice gone in a day??

thx alot everyone !!!!

I'll tell you what I'm really scared, I lived in Israel
And in a car is 120% income tax will be followed!
I mean it costs more than twice the number that comes with you
And all repair costs a lot .. probably
anyway you really helpd me ! :D
I understand she was not problematic as they told me
But note already 3 people in my message said they had problems
Although a little something, but still problems! And its still a new vehicle... =\

i have done 17k in my cupra (Revo stage 1 for about 10k of that) and have loved every single mile, i love the DSG box, i dont miss manual what so ever! My car had missfired once and that may have just been a "computer says NO" moment.

The car looks amazing, its cheap to insure and tax, pretty good on fuel too (depending on how you drive it ;)

When it comes to chopping this car in for something new (2-3years time), there will have to be a big reason why i dont get another car with a DSG box

i am also from israel (originally), and i've got a mk5 cupra.
drove over 10k on him. it's revO'd chipped. got modified front/rear lights (there's a thread here with photos of him - Guri).

cant see any faults (its my11 model). its easy to hear about those who said that the car is bad, since they pop always, but those who are oke with their car, never speak.

there's a huge different between mk5 and mk4, its like comparing a 50 years old hooker, done 50385483 men, VS a freshy young russian.

get the mk5, its much better, more younger, better MPG, drives much better on corner. and it looks in and out better.

buy it and lets drive together.

I agree, 100%.

Just coming up to 6000 miles now and the car hasn't missed a beat, engine or DSG!

Just over 3000 miles in my FR from new..........absaloutely no problems.

As others have said, DSG is fantastic. Makes me wonder why they even bother making manual gearboxes when auto can be this good.
