Opinions on Clutch and Flywheel Setup for 150 FR

Hey guys I know its another clutch thread but I've searched and searched and I am non the wiser.

I currently have a 150bhp Leon FR which has been remapped to around 200bhp, the clutch is slipping quite badly at the minute and I am looking to change it before it goes pop. It was remapped about 4 years ago and currently has 78,000 miles on the clock.

My options are:

Replace the clutch and dual mass flywheel for OEM ones
Uprated Sachs clutch (supplied by awesome) with OEM dual mass flywheel?
Helix uprated clutch and dual mass flywheel (supplied by awesome)
Awesomes own uprated clutch with single mass flywheel

I have read various threads stating that a single mass flywheel is more durable but increases vibrations and noise and could put more strain on the gearbox. I am looking to keep to an OEM driving experience (no heavy clutch pedal, awkward biting point or more noise or vibration).

Any opinions or advice? Thanks guys
 
:think: I think they do a system on an SMF these days for diesels running 236lb/ft which has the anti-backlash somewhere on the clutch pressure plate to protect the gearbox??? Not totally sure. I'm still running my Standard DMF on my remapped 1.9 FR just waiting for it to fall apart and when it does I'll think about a more reliable clutch and flywheel that will last longer. DMF's are junk, I know they protect the gearbox but they are put together like a Jammy dodger and come apart just like one too. You might aswell have a jammy dodger installed. Saw a brand new one on Youtube for a Passat and the way the DMF plates rock backwards and forwards by a few millimeters does make you question the durability of them. I know the springs inside and the rocking movement do help to dampen the backlash and the vibration but I'm sure there are other ways around it.
 
Really hope a few guys can chime in on this one. A lot of people have discussed what they were hoping to go for but without much of a report when they've actually decided on a set up.

I would go with the dual mass. I was talking to a fella who had his 150 fr which was putting out 240bhp. He had a solid flywheel in his car for about a month but he had to remove it as the car was running like a tractor. He then put a dualmass in and is now running fine for the last 15k. Im going to go with the dual mass in my car aswell with the uprated sachs clutch kit, hopefully getting it done next week.

Hey laser where are you getting your uprated sachs from have you got a price for it yet? will you run it with an oem dual mass flywheel?
 
I am in exactly the same situation. Around 195bhp on a mk1 FR - There is only one real option a Sach uprated clutch with oem duel mass flywheel.
This had been tried and tested by many members with a PD150 and its proven to be a great setup for the mapped engine.

My old map on my Fabia peaked at 200bhp but it still killed a DMF due to the 380ftlb torque spike at low RPM (around 2000RPM from memory). There's no such thing as "a safe bhp limit for a clutch", it's ENTIRELY down to the torque figures.

Mines running just over 290 ftlb on a standard clutch/flywheel thats covered 107k - there is no suprise its slipping at all.

How much is an OEM dual mass flywheel? I guess for the Sachs setup with OEM flywheel your looking about a grand?
 
1. Use an uprated kit which has a DMF.

2. A stock 1.9TDI/150 makes 236 lb/ft. You need something sturdier.

3. 1.9TDI/150 comes with a 228mm flywheel / clutch setup (this is why it does not hold even 300 lb/ft unless you're lucky as hell. It's practically the same setup for all TDIs from the 90bhp to the 150bhp engine)

OK.

So, ARL engine (1.9TDI/150) is a 240mm clutch - code 038 105 266 AG (flywheel + clutch setup)

AUQ / ARY / AMK / BAM engines (1.8T 6-speed) have all the same 240mm clutch-flywheel combo - code 06A 105 266P

Why does the first setup give up at even less than 300 lb/ft, while the 1.8T setup holds even better than 300? (While 300 lb/ft is far too optimistic in an AUQ, Stage 2 modded LCRs jump it often and can run over 100 000 miles on a stock clutch.)

Even worse, the 1.9TDI/150 flywheel gives up before the clutch does - it will grind, rattle and make other bad things, even in an abused stock car.

sachs dualmass from gsf trade price £195+vat
helix clutch from helix in banbury £550 inc vat
clutch feels heavier but that was expected but the actual feel/bite is the same no grabbing/sharpness
240mm clutch

Im getting it done in ************s, its in ballymena, should be near you.
The price i got was £800. This price was for OEM DMF, sachs upgraded friction disc and pressure plate, a new release bearing, and fitting.
This is the kit they recommended

I'm gonna b getting the Awesome uprated clutch, They didn't mention if it was SMF or DMF, although i run on petrol so god knows.. Also This is 900ish for parts and labour

Clutch fitting on a Leon is around 5 hours, last time I had one done that was £180 (although recent quotes for my Fabia have been as high as £280 for the same work).
OEM DMF cost around £250 when I bought mine about 18 months ago, and that was with 15% VAT.
That only leaves £370 out of your £800 for plate, cover and release bearing. Those parts cost me around £640 about 18 months ago so again, with 15% VAT (around £520 excluding VAT).

Either they've found the worlds best Sachs supplier who does some insane deals, or you're not getting what you think you're getting for your money....IMO, anyway.

Yea i rang and confirmed the price its £120 for fitting regardless of time taken and £700 for all the parts, they said they will do it for £800 altogether.
Its definitely the uprated sachs clutch kit, confirmed this also, they buy the kits in bulk as they do alot of them, thats why its so cheap.
