Wolverhampton.
When I bought the car I noticed there was no oil in it. It's go the usual injector tick but has a nasty metallic rattle from the engine. Its an embarrassing sound to say the least. I thought maybe big end bearings or downpipe or timing belt tensioners. I have put a full milltek on and the noise is still bloody there. Any ideas guys? I really don't want it to be bearings.

If its as bad as you say it sounds like a piston has picked up or a big ends starting.
Does it not alter when pressing the clutch? They are common for release bearing chatter.
Just an idea.

You had this car long ??? can you just take it back to the garage you got it from ???

Hate to sound arsy but why would you buy a car if it had no oil in it - doesn't exactly show its been treated well.

Best thing would be to have a Seat or a decent garage look at the car, should be able to tell you wroughly if the rattle is serious or not and worth investigating.

Did a private part ex with my Audi a3 a couple months ago, so no garage. The Audi was knackered and I just wanted rid. Only noticed no oil a week later to be honest. and I'm a technician for Subaru and have done big end bearings on a 2.0 turbo ej20 and it didn't sound like this, the Subaru was much louder and more of a knocking noise. Think I will get somebody to sit in it while I look underneath on the ramps.

Also heard of a brake pipe rattle? Seems possibly too loud though

+1

Any lack of power? Smoke? Possible the turbos hanging out of it, could be worth taking the turbo intake of and checking the play ect on the shaft.

this was the original problem as identified in a vw tech brief

do this it worked for me and sounds just like your issue

VW have issued guidance on this noise as follows...
Technical product information Transaction No.: 2021062/1
Rattling noises from engine/exhaust system Release date: 10-Jul-2009

Customer statement / workshop findings

Rattling or jarring noise from the engine compartment / exhaust system when accelerating between 2400 and 3000 rpm .

Technical background

Waste gate adjustment rod of the turbo charger rattles when accelerating.

and the part number used to fix it was - 06J145220A

its just a clip that goes over the wastgate actuator arm on the turbo

This is for the TSI engine and not for the TFSI - please correct me if this is wrong
